I think if you are fair wait about a month. Check out the persons feedback to see if they had any other neg you get an idea on what to do. I personnally leave great feedback for someone as soon as they pay. They lived up to there part If I get Neg its my fault. I guess Im just lucky I have left quite a few neg for people who dont pay with nobody giving me any neg & I am getting close to 1000 feedback with no neg. Just keep it factual & if a person had great feedback up til then maybe there computer died , or worse yet they were sick & hospitalized . I have had both happen. Be patient I guess is my best answer but definately warn the rest of us & dont be afraid to leave neg. If someone was to leave me neg I would respond with the truth & feedback history is my proof.
OK. Here is problem: I paid this seller 8,000 bucks for an item that was totally misrepresented. The seller now has the item and the cash. What I now realize is that this seller has probably a dozen unanswered feed backs--a total of 52 transactions but 40 positive feedbacks. This is the flaw in the Feed Back System; folks don't want to get Negged, so they don't leave anything. It would seem that either we need to work out some sort of Feed Back Sniper or some third party moderation to balance negges out. This month's WIRED magazine talks about eBay feed back being more real than Equifax or any of the other credit reporting agencies; if this is true, then users are right to concerned about getting Negged. Additionally, eBay should exploit feed back / credit reporting as another service they offer. This would mean real time, real world credit reporting; and add an interesting reality to our society's financial landscape. So what is the answer? It would have been nice if those 12 people who got burned by my seller would have posted negative feed back, I could sure use that eight grand.

Has any one thought about eBay's dark little secret? These so called legally binding auctions are totally unenforceable. eBay it seems is either impotent or unwilling to anything to help, it's hard to see which.
An increasing number of buyers/sellers are not bothering to leave feedback at all, but I suspect it's more a case of 'couldn't be bothered' rather than fear of retaliation.

If your seller had duped 12 buyers it's not likely that none have reported him/her to eBay and had him/her suspended, especially if the deals involve as high a figure as yours.

I would be reluctant to risk as much as 8 biggies on someone with such a low transaction record in the first place, even if their feedback was 100%. Can you reverse the payment?

Gardengnome, point well made. Region2 what would the hoops be? We have filed a compaint with the Attorney Generals office of the state that the seller in, as well as the US Postal Inspectors Office--the seller is currently under investigation for fraud. Most obviously, filed claims with every eBay department that we are aware of. eBay seems to be an oddly sort of clandestine organization.

Here's a point that all of you listening may find of interest. We applied our efforts meticulously to every detail to retrieve the Cashier's Check. At the prodding of the bank manager we had the check listed as stolen, inspite of our best efforts the seller was some how able to cash the check. We are now gearing up to sue the bank. Not a appealing prospect.
Boy has this been a long hard journey. Still have not gotten our money back and we're headed for Superior Court. The lesson here is: eBay auctions are NOT LEGALY BINDING unless you have the time and the money to enforce them.

Re: Feedback Sniping Software.

It's unnecessary. You can leave feedback any time you want, if you know how. Make a record of user id and the item number so that if you have neg the person, you can; you must have that info. On the eBay home page, click on "Site Map" at the top. Under the heading Community / Feedback click on "Leave Feedback for a Transaction." Fill in the required information. Neg'em. Most folks will be surprized since conventional eBay wisdon says that Feedback can only be left for 90 days. Hope this helps.
It's best to leave it before 90 days. It may be available to do so for a little after 90 days, or it may not. Better to leave a neg you want to leave then on day 89 or something.

I just tried leaving a neg for a 2 year old item and I couldnt. The bastard drug me out past 90 days saying he'd give me a refund then he didnt and I wasnt careful and went over 90 days. $120 down the drain after I returned the item with delivery confirmation and he got it and wouldnt refund me. The sob doesnt sell anymore but I still was hoping your trick would work so I could neg him.
Sara B, it's too bad you're neg didn't work.

It was actually eBay Customer Service that turned us on to it. They're clearly aware that conventional eBay wisdom says that 90 days is it; between the time we learned about the Post 90 Feedback and now, they changed the layout of the site map and name of the feature from "leave feedback for a single transaction."

It was kind of funny, this seller who's been avoiding us sure came alive when they got neg'd 130 days out. They then proceeded to hire a Square Trade mediator who abruptly ended the mediation when the truth finally trickled out.

Thanks for being there.
Admittedly, it's much easier to leave negative feedback for someone if you don't do a lot of selling on EBay. But, the whole system is predicated on honesty. Unfortunately, EBay doesn't cross some thin legal line when it comes to involving themselves in feedback disputes. Just the fact that they limit feedback to be within 90 days probably crosses this legal line, but that's another story.

I once purchased a gold pocket watch for what was a good price (Today it would even be better) and sent out the M.O. the next day. On the following day I received an email from the seller, telling me that the item was stolen, along with several other watches from his car. He returned my money order, with the envelope unopened (He couldn't even know if there was a M.O. in it.). I was miffed because, at the very least, I felt that the seller did not exercise due care for what was now, in essence, my watch. I emailed him, voicing my displeasure, and asking him to fax me a copy of the police report, which I'd felt he would've have undoubtedly filed, being that he'd had "20 watches" stolen. He went on the major offensive, saying that he didn't need to supply me with any proof of anything, that his word should be enough. I didn't know this guy from Adam.
Sidenote:When I checked his recent feedback, I saw that a seller, with whom I've had some real problems over the years, had left him feedback just prior to my leaving feedback. The great Ebay door of communication had been opened between this buyer and seller due to the recent transaction. Suddenly, my purchase is thwarted due to reasons that I found suspicious. Anyway, it is my belief that this nemesis seller contacted the watch seller with a higher off-EBay bid, or some other interfering action. I can never prove this, and EBay is no help for common buyer versus PowerSellers, but his feedback is directly under mine on the feedback page. What are the odds of it being a real coincidence? Slim and none.

Anyway, here's the feedback that this seller left for me, after I left him a truthful, Neutral feedback. My only threats were that I would not be able to leave him good feedback, due to the circumstances surrounding the transaction. Apparently, he never looked at the Neutral feedback I left him before leaving the Negative for me.

My feedback as left for him:

Neutral feedback rating Good deal made, sent M.O. next day, seller returns M.O., claims item was stolen

The feedback system really is useless unless truthful.
