I am a new user, so I thought that I would try to make the best use of my last remaining free snipe by saving it for a higher valued item. However, it appears I just outsmarted myself. Because I cannot place a snipe reliably with my dial-up modem unless I start with a little under a minute to go, I ended up paying considerably more for a couple of items because there was time left for other bidders to respond. Until I had an alternative, I would simply have accepted this result without calculating the cost. I now intend to use this service more consistently.
