Hi all,
This is my first post & until today, I didnt know about AS. It appears I got sniped on Friday night whilst bidding for something I really wanted. I was gutted to say the least. I sat there waiting for the auction to end & then I was outbid at 5 seconds left! Couldnt beleive it. Anyway, the seller told me what had happened & so, I thought I'd check it out. I have now registered!

I have a question that I cant see the answer to on the home page:
If I want something, & place a bid using AS, will I be paying over the odds for it if I win? for example: If theres an item for £100 & I place my maximum at £150, when the auction closes & it hasnt gone above £100, do I have to pay £150 for the said item, or does it just raise by whatever bid increment the site has set?
Also, I am waiting for an auction to end & are using one of my introductory "free" snipes. I have set it to £100, but I just dropped by the Ebay page & the biding has gone to £110. Yet I havent been notified by AS that I have been outbid. I could theoretically be sitting here without my computer switched on & wouldnt know this. How do I get round that one?

Thanks in advance for all responses to a newbie!!

If your snipe is high bid, you will pay the ebay increment over the 2nd highest bidder, but you bid must be at least a full increment higher.

From AS' faq:
How come I’m outbid but my snipe doesn’t know it yet?

We check if you are outbid in certain waves. This is a HUGE bandwidth waster and costs us money, so we do it the most economical way we can:

If the item ends within 30 min, we may check 10 every min
If the item ends in an hour, we may check every 20 min
If the item ends in a day, we may check every 12 hours
If the item ends in 7 days, we may not check yet.If your snipe is high bid, you will pay the ebay increment over the 2nd highest bidder, but you bid must be at least a full increment higher.

You can't overcome the absence of outbid notification if your computer is turned off. There's just no way. Your doorbell won't ring. Neither will your telephone. AS won't send you a telegram. Wink But you can always refresh the info on the snipes you have laid on by clicking on the small icon, "Update items info" at the top of your snipe list. Do this any time, as often as you like.

When you win an auction, you are only liable for the amount needed to win, not for the full amount of your bid whatever that was. Don't forget that you will have to pay AS a small (1% of winning bid amount up to $5.00 max) fee for their service, and this fee applies even though you also used a manual snipe with AS as a backup. The fee only applies to winning bids. You can lose as many as you like without charge. Big Grin
