Everyone ready for Sunday Night Madness?

I usually snipe manually so I hardly ever use AS. My default setting is 3 seconds and it just so happened that I had to use AS on a Sunday since I was going to be away from my computer for an item I wanted. Doh! It's Sunday and wayyy too much traffic! Will remember that next time

Maybe AS can reprogram things so that no snipe placed on Sunday night will go in less than 30 seconds before auction close. That might save these people a lot of grief. It might also spare us who know better the trouble of reading all this unmitigated bleat blaming AS.

I lost an auction that closed at 3:45 pm Sunday afternoon....but I should have known better !! Rickdogg & Steve are so right.....If you really want an item, you better do a manual snipe as well. I will be extra careful next Sat/Sun. !!!

It's surprising how many sellers moan at snipers, well, I've had 3 moan as it goes, but I can't figure why they moan, they are happy enough to take my money.

If someone snipes my stuff, good luck to them, in fact if I've got no bids or 1 bid, I quietly hope someone has a snipe set up...

And my default is set to 3 seconds as well, I don't buy as often as I used to, but I try to put just a little more in the max snipe value than I'd really want to pay, that way I usually win it... Why lose the auction for 25p or £1 eh!!

Parrot what complaints do sellers make about sniping?

Yesterday during the peak bidding time I lost several auctions because my bid did not go through and the status message sent to me via email was "Not In Time." However, others that did not go through had a status message of "Ready" even though the auction was over. Does anyone know what this happened?

I think that some buyers hate snipers because we don't allow time for their shills to be effective.

p.s. - I see we picked up a few one-post-guerilla-complainers last night. Ahhh - sweet Sunday nights add some spice to this forum.

Rcommage, the busiest time on eBay is Sunday night. Acceptance and registration of bids by eBay can be running a minute or more behind, so it's perfectly possible to be left waiting at the altar with an 8-second snipe when eBay doesnt' get around to even considering your bid until the auction has closed. Always allow at least 30 seconds for snipes placed in peak hours.

Anyway, that's what happened to your bids. Sorry. Better luck (and planning) next time.

Don't leave a snipe for any auction closing between 01:00 PST and 03:00 PST on Friday's. Proxy bidders rule during ebay's scheduled maintenance, and during ebay's meltdowns, and of course, during a worm or nuclear attack. But that's fair. Give the proxy bidders their few hours a week. The rest of the time is Sniper Time.

Thanks Steve. But today Auction Sniper failed to put in a bid at 15:47 PST (5 seconds before the end). It sent me an email after the auction ended with the status as "Ready". Thursday at 3:47 pm PST shouldn't be that busy of a time. what do you think?

Robert, I think you should read Sara B.'s comments in another area of the Forum. I also think you should look to eBay as the source of 99% of this sort of problems. AS can't place a snipe if eBay is down.

I set 5 snipes for mad Sunday (tomorrow). I'm going to be away from the computer and set the "snipes" at 60 seconds! ROFL

What normally would people consider 'peak times' during the various days of the week on eBay?

Sorry if I seem green, but curiosity could not be quelled.

Sunday PM's, and auctions that end exactly on the hour or half hour. Something about ebay that causes excessive sellers to post on the hour/half hour.

"Give evil nothing to opose and it will disappear by itself." - Lao-tzu. Doesn't apply to anything you said, but it's the only one I could come up with quickly.

And if they do? Should I set my snipe a little longer? Should I bid 1 min before end? 30 seconds?

I have an item that end at exactly: May-26-03 18:00:00 PDT.

My snipe time is set at 5 seconds currently. Though I have a max bid of 75.00 with the current bid @ 16.00

Give your snipes 8 to 10 seconds lead time. Lots of users are happy with 5 and less, but if you're sniping something very important, make it 8 or more. Ebay slows up at different times. AS tries to compensate, but they can't always make the correct adjustment. Help AS to help you by using longer lead times. For Sunday evenings (prime time) and auctions that end exactly on the hour or half hour (very heavy traffic) you should use longer times. On Sunday evening auctions the members recommend 15 to 30 seconds, and for hour or half hour ending auctions AS recommends 20 to 25 seconds.

We've all been thru it, and IT IS A RUSH! The first couple of AS' snipes are the toughest, or FUNEST (sic). After awhile you won't stay up late, or interrupt your dinner, just to see if your snipe went thru.
