Email notification of messages

Do I have to check the box regarding email notification every time I post?

I had been receiving email messages . . . but they're not arriving anymore. If I do check the proper box, will I receive email notification for that whole thread?

Okay, this is relatively minor in the whole scheme of things, but it sure is nice to know when there's been a response to a plea!!
