Is using AuctionSniper breaking the User Agreement I entered into with eBay ? It says on http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/community/png-user.html

"... You shall also not permit, either directly or indirectly, any other person to utilise your User ID or password. ..." Which is exactly what Auction Sniper is doing. Is eBay likely to find out, and if so will they suspend people for sniping ?

Two forum members come to mind, that are both in the U.K.; region2 and Mike from West Yorkshire. region2 has been around for a long time. Neither one of these two forum members impress me as using a service that would jeopardize their ebay membership.

The only place I've heard about having problems with automated sniping was ebay Germany.

Sniping

Someone bid on an item I was bidding on at the very last second and won it! Is this allowed?

Yes, it is.

Within the eBay Community, this practice is called "sniping" and it means to place a high bid in the closing seconds of an auction-style listing.

As frustrating as it can be to lose an item you really wanted, sniping is part of the eBay experience, and all bids placed before a listing ends are valid - even if they're placed only one second before the listing ends.

One way to help avoid disappointment is to ensure that the maximum bid you enter on the item page is the highest price that you're willing to pay. The eBay system automatically increases your bid up to the maximum price you specify, so entering a higher maximum may help prevent you from being outbid in the closing seconds of a listing.

Straight from the horse's mouth!
Thanks for the feedback. I was not questioning if sniping was OK on eBay, but I was concerned that giving my eBay username & password to AS & letting them use it on my behalf was against eBay rules. It seems that from this thread -

that eBay are not allowing other people to use accounts that are not theirs. So can AS use MY account details ?

Be bold... why not ask eBay and let us know what THEY have to say.

That sounded like a good idea. I did email their customer support & they said "... This technique is called "sniping" and although we discourage
this bidding strategy it is one that is commonly used. ... We encourage all members to use the proxy bidding system that is in
place ... " So they dont encourage it, but dont say you cant do it.

Sounds like a green light to me ! Well done AS & thanks for the help.
