From The Scotsman

quote:
INTERNET firm EBay has set up operations in Dublin and plans to hire up to 1,000 staff in the area, which is about to be hit by 650 layoffs at hi-tech firm 3Com.

The operation is expected to incorporate part of EBay’s payment processing business, PayPal, which it bought for US$1.5 billion (£948 million) in stock last year.

The company is understood to have considered other locations, including the Netherlands and Scotland.

Internet firms Google and Overture have already announced plans to create 200 jobs each in the Dublin area.

Tech firm 3Com is expected to confirm 650 layoffs from its 700-strong workforce this week, leaving just a small research facility in Ireland.

I wonder if they're new jobs, or whether we're (Europe) nicking them off California!!!
