I recently purchased a new anti-fraud software on the Internet specially made for eBayers: EBAY FRAUD DETECTOR. This software detects Buyer Fraud, Seller Fraud and has an Updated Database of Scam Escrow Services. You just enter info about your eBay transaction and this software will tell you what to do next.

How about this quote from their home page:

"When I first saw what this software is all about I wondered how come nobody ever thought of this before. Ebayers surely need this kind of automated fraud detection. I'm not a rookie on eBay but this software surely opened my eyes on a few auctions that I didn't initially categorize as suspicious. Also the Live Updated Scam Escrow Database is great!...

All that proves is that there are at least 3 eBayers named Steve. Wink

Thanks for pointing out the web site. I looked around and didn't see much other than glowing testimonials that might have all been written by the same guy. The software works on tendencies and probabilities and gives out advice. Whether the advice is sound probably varies from case to case.

I've only been ripped off once by an eBay seller and the postal authorities now have a dossier on him. If he resurfaces in interstate trade they've got his butt. I think common sense will save you as much grief as this software.
I have a feeling that snipers tend to be more skeptical than proxy bidders (I'm not bashing proxy bidders; this time). Our being skeptical may be an, or the, influencing factor in becoming snipers. It might explain some of the weird conspiracy theories that appear in this forum. It might also explain why some people get so mad if their snipe is placed too early, or too late.

I'm skeptical, but I'm probably in the minority. I'm SURE everyone else is VERY open-minded. After all, we RARELY disagree. Razz

I'm like Steve; I've never experienced actual "fraud" on ebay. Some crappy service, and some items not in the condition specified. But, we've all heard horror stories. So, if anyone does use this service, I hope you'll give us the results.

Note: If someone disagrees with this, would they still be considered "open-minded"?

As Steve and Rick pointed out, common sense and experience prevail among snipers--certainly among AS users--so what advantage does this database offer? I have no need for the escrow fraud and some of the other features, and presumably it is the eBay features that are being pitched here.

I know how to conduct eBay transactions separately; only two sellers have ever wronged me, out of hundreds, and even one of those two was more stupid than she was dishonest. I observe the feedback and payment options in each auction, along with seller's other auctions. What other "data" is analyzed here? Since since this product portends to be a database of info collected from users and transactors, isn't this info readily available to any eBay member? I mean, the people who allegedly contributed data would presumably be eBay members who provided pertinent feedback to the seller or buyer's rating, which is available for all to review.

It reminds me of "scholarship services" that claim to provide information to college aplicants who, in most cases, can locate the information themselves, especially in the information age.
Please notice that nobody is accusing michael101 of being paid for shilling for the fraud software company.

Michael, I don't doubt that you have received value from this software. Neither do I question that it can perform as it advertises (which, by the way, is at the 90% correct level, not 100%). I am skeptical only as to whether I could derive the same amount of value from it that you have. The decision to buy or not to buy is a personal one, based on one's own experience and needs. My decision not to buy this software is in no way a reflection on your experience or your needs. OK?
