Early bid placement & bid cancellation by Ebay

Hi,
I am a reasonably experienced Ebay user (FB624), and this was my first time using AS.

Here are my questions:
1)for an auction that ended at 3am (PST) 12/17/04, the bid was placed by AS at 0:29 (PST) 12/17/04. My lead was set at 7. Can you explain what happened?

2)The above bid was the high bidder, but at 2:55:02 (PST), ebay cancelled my bid : Explanation: unable to verify user's identity. The winner then bid with less than 2 minutes to go. Again, what happened?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I was looking forward to this tool.

Does the ebay comment refer to (1) - the early bid placement, or (2) the bid cancellation, or both?
