Should have used AuctionSniper - PayPal is now known for the accuracy of its Snipes.

Let the forum know how it cost you $15, bearing in mind that no human can react to a bid at 34 seconds from the end. Make sure you've read the FAQs and the forum (and eBay's POXY BIDDING entry on their help) plus include the item number. That will ensure an enthusiastic response from someone.

nb. Most on the forum suggest 8 seconds as being ideal.

Hey Rose,

When I joke I put a Smile or a Wink at the end of a line. Roll Eyes

To react to a bid you must have out-guessed the 'opponent' and set up a higher amount and be waiting at the confirm bid button OR go through the three stage process of bidding. If the servers are running slow then there's a good chance you'll miss and that's no laughing matter!

If you have got that bid waiting at the confirm bid page then you either have to set up a sky-high bid or risk getting beaten.

Lots of use of the word 'risk' here...

Hi,
Did not know you were here!
I agree that a human might fail to make a bid within 34 seconds, but I reckon there is a good chance someone can see a bid at 34 seconds and make a bid reacting to it, even on a dial up connection. Obviously they would need to be watching the item finish very closely, but that is quite likely if they are making late bids manually. Serial late nibblers can make bids as frequently as every 8 seconds.

Sorry, I must rush now. See you later.
