Not only PayPal spoofs comming in, but a few weeks I started receiving E-Bay spoofs. If any e-mail ever asks you for your ID or password information, never -- never, fill in info. Send to your ISP carrier and to PayPal or E-Bay. I've gotten so that I don't open them at all -- seems they are by-passing my security and downloading spareware, etc as soon as I open mail.

The ones involving E-Bay is because they know that most people use the same password for both. If you fill in the E-bay changing policy e-mail then they will use the password to try and access PayPal. Oh, obvously never give them your charge card and banking information. As far as how they are getting your e-mail address? Is I found that (I am also a buyer) when you click on an auction item to view at E-Bay, and you hear your computer crunching, famoose! Spyware is being installed on your computer!!! I very, very seldom go anywhere but AOL search to find info on their web. So, I know that that is how this is happening. Aol has free spyware you can install. There was 170 items that were deleted!!! Ending each day, I run spyware and delete their stuff from my system, and on those days -- I had not been anywhere or opened any e-mails -- but just on E-bay buying and selling!!! Will be loading Firewall soon.

ad-aware is pretty good at removing spyware.

zone alarm is a pretty good firewall.

[both free!] - find them via google!

They also get your emails from buying and selling huge lists so don't get too paranoid about spyware. I have yet to receive any spam or spoofs on my eBay specific email address but I have received them on addresses not registered with eBay!

I've received ebay spoofs in my ebay specific email. I also have started receiving more and more spam, even tho I keep that email private (for friends, business and ebay only).

I run Spybot Search & Destroy AND AdAware at least once a week, sometimes more. I find I pick up a lot of spyware when I do a google search. Depending on the link I click on, I could end up with 10 pop-ups in a matter of seconds. Next thing I know I get the window asking me if I want to download something. Umm, no. If I wanted to I would do it on my own, not have your pop-up in my face! And I can't count how many times something's been downloaded without my knowledge. Mad

If you're using google and have their toolbar installed you can turn on the popup blocking feature! It works WONDERS! And if you *do* want popups to show for a particular site (banking, etc) you can do it easily.

Ohh I had quite a sneaky spoof today that I thought I should warn ppl about.

It was very official looking and didnt ask you to enter any information on the actual email, but linked to an ebay looking address ie, http://ctg.ebaypages etc etc

BUT...when I "copied shortcut" and pasted into a new browser window, it came up as a completely different address.

This one must be a new breed of spoof, as it didnt have the fake look that the others do.

I'm always paranoid about things like this. Is anyone 100% sure the google toolbar doesn't install spyware on your computer? Just curious cos I've never checked it out.

Greetings all,
I've been using the google toolbar for some time now and nothing has ever shown up in a spy sweep that was connected to the toolbar.

It does a great job of pop up blocking, in my opinion and much simpler to use than the other pop up stoppers I've tried.

AS Rules!!! Eek Eek Eek

I've used the google toolbar for at least a couple of years (how long has it been available?) and I've never seen any spyware or adware connection. In fact, I've never noticed any advertising on Google at all, except the paid listings in the boxes on the side. That's one of the reasons that I'm a fan -- no "image ads", no flashing banners, no popups... their restraint is remarkable!

Stuff can get through the firewall in various ways. One thing Ad-Aware gets rid of is 'dodgy' cookies. Now cookies aren't all bad - in fact they can be very useful. The ones ad-aware removes are ones that are only benefitting the vendors by reporting back personal info. Others can be essential for the running of a site (ie. transferring data from page to page as you complete a transaction on Amazon).

Click [ here ] ! - strange - the Forum adds an '_' (underscore) character into the address so you'll need to manually edit that out for the link to work...

Also, trojans get come inbedded in software you load on your PC via disk or CD. Obviously this bypasses your firewall...

So, keep your virus checker and firewall up-to-date and all should be well...

Yesterday I received another spoof telling me that my account (can't remember if it was PayPal or eBay) had been charged $15 because I hadn't updated my info!

What's worse - people have started spoofing their return address to point to MY domain name, and I'm getting All of their 'couldn't deliver this email' messages! My spam mail has now jumped to almost 2000 a day! It's getting a tad more than annoying Mad

I don't have my isp filter my mail (I don't trust other peoples spam filters!), but I do poll about every 5-10 minutes for new mail ... so most of the time the stuff on my isp's machine is minimal.

This is email to the domain that I've had since 1996 ... so I think I'm on every spam mailing list there is!

I recently bought my own web/mail server so when I get it up and running I'll be able to easily bounce the stuff *I* don't want Smile
