I bid $160 on a Dutch auction for Qty = 2, at the time, the high bidders were $228 and $60.

I ended up getting On item for $160, why didn't AS get it for say $65 or $75? why did it have to go all the way to my max bid. Based on what I see in the bid history, it didn't need to go that high to get the one Item that I got.

mg - the point to know about dutch auctions is that there is no proxy bidding. Frown

So when your snipe was placed at $160, you were not instructing Ebay to bid up to $160 but to bid at $160.

You had the second highest bid for a dutch auction of 2 items so the auction ended at the lowest winning bid, yours. Looking back you could have won one of the items for $61 - ouch!

Perhaps AS could warn snipers when placing bids on Dutch auctions? When placing a snipe it clearly says 'Max Bid' which has been misleading in your case.
I wish AS would have warned me that I was bidding on a Dutch auction and that the behavior is different in that there is no proxy biding, I didn't notice that it was dutch auction until after the fact.

What I Did notice is that the Auction Sniper java window asked me "Qty 1 of 2", I think AS should make Dutch Auction a Different color or warn you or call it a "Bid" and not "Max Bid"

I guess I was hoping that AS would know what it needs to bid for me at the last seconed, and only bid $1 more than the high bidder..up to my max amount.

The kicker is that I have to pay the commision on top of the lousy result that I got.

I guess I just paid $100 for Dutch Auctions 101.
Although it does not help financially, your experience with the dutch auctions is not an uncommon one on eBay, and many people learn by taking a hit in the pocketbook.

A better way to think of this is that at least the other bidder who won is wondering why he has to pay so much also Smile

It is a somewhat confusing way to run an auction, and AS has to work with the software that eBay is running, and when placing the bid, cannot proxy bid on a dutch auction.
