Dear me, didn't you two even stop to read the reply to millicentd on the same subject? For the record, snipes placed on Sunday must allow a greater lead time, at least 15 seconds, because that's eBay's busiest time. There is such a crush of last-minute bids, most of them by proxy bidders, that eBay's servers cannot keep up and a lot of bids, probably including yours, don't reach eBay's servers in time to be registered. This is not an AS problem. Click on the small "search" icon at the top of this page and search for "Sunday" and you'll find that this topic has been answered dozens of times in the past.

Snipers have some advantages, but they also have to do their homework. Roll Eyes

I did read about the Sunday issue, after my AS snipe failed and I came here to find out why.

First off, some of us do not visit here daily, or even weekly. Maybe we should, but AS is supposed to save us time, and checking various boards daily to read the latest is not what I was looking for to save time.

Second, I placed a bid manually at pretty close to the same time for a co-worker who was gone for the weekend, and does not have AS (which is why I even bothered to use AS for my auction when I was home), and placed it within the 10 second time frame (actually less), and it was fine.

3rd, I did not mind losing the bid on this particular item, I was wondering why AS did not give an explaination, such as, "Bid Placed Too Late" or something, so I would know what to fix when scheduling future auctions.

Just noting, "Did not win" was not very helpful, and is exactly what my question was, which was WHY did I lose the bid, and why is it not noted as a "Too Late" bid, rather than a "You did not win" bid.

THAT was my question, which you totally missed in order to point out something else.
The issue of whether or not a snipe -- or any bid -- is registered by eBay during a peak bidding time is a hit-or-miss proposition, much as which of two bids submitted precisely at the same time will be registered first by eBay. So your acquaintance's bid got through and yours didn't. That's the luck of the draw. Maybe you don't want to read up on the latest scoop from AS but doing so might just have won an auction for you this time. As I just told someone else, snipers have an advantage but they have to do their homework.

With respect to the "Did Not Win" notice, very often eBay doesn't tell AS why the bid didn't go through and all AS can tell you is that you "Did Not Win." If eBay tells AS the bid wasn't in time, you'd get a "Bid not in time" indicator from AS. "Did Not Win" is the AS equivalent of scratching its head, like this: Confused.
