Didn't get "too low" email

We only check like every 1 hour near the end of the auction. Thus that bid came after the last time we checked the price.

Thanks for your response. Shouldn't I (eventually) get a msg that the bid was too low to be placed?

Yes, but the goal should really be to place one's max, no matter what, since one gets but a single shot.

I agree that you should put in your best bid, but since I haven't gotten any email at all about this bid, even tho the auction ended 4 hours ago, I'm wondering if there's some problem.

AS will send a 'bid to low' notice if it knows that condition exists. That gives you the chance to change your max. Since the auction has ended there's no chance to change your bid, so no need for the warning. I don't think AS sends out emails for lost auctions.

Personally, I don't think there is much use for the notice BEFORE the auction ends. If the price goes over my max, I don't want it for that outrageous price anyway!

Every time I've placed a non-winning snipe, I've gotten an email that the bid couldn't be placed. Didn't this time.

I seldom change my max bid (snipe) either nor pay much mind to the email stating I have too low of a bid set, but I know many do change them and depend on the email notices. However, I agree with you two..not much sense in one on a closed auction!

It's VERY possible I'm wrong. I've got all my emails turned off. Just looked at the email selections and didn't see it.

Just looked again and you are RIGHT. There IS an option to get status report after every snipe. I stand corrected!

Puppy, are you refering tothe one in the My snipes, right side? Never mind, I see what you are talking about.

I'm signed up to receive a status report after each snipe but still haven't rec'd one on this snipe; have rec'd one on every other snipe I've placed so far.

Auction ended 4:30 pm eastern
Status report (bid too low) came after 2:30 a.m.

This has never happened before.
YES YES YES I know about placing your highest bid etc., and I now understand that AS doesn't check auction prices as often as I thought. But what I'm now wondering about is why this report came 10 hours after the fact, when all the other status reports I've gotten have been nearly instant.

Don't know if this is the case here, but I've received email (sent to myself from a hotmail address as a test) as much as 4 DAYS after I sent it! Look in the header information for the times, and you may be able to find where the delay took place.

Looks like it wasn't sent until 11:30 (don't know what time zone tho)

-08 is the time zone. Think that would be PST or eBay time.

OK, so auction closed 1:30 pm PST, email sent 11:30ish pm PST. That solves the mystery of why it came late, but not why sent late.

I'm not sure why the email took so long.

Only thing I can think of is because of that new MyDoom email virus on the internet.

Also eBay has been doing some things in the past day or two that screw up emails so that could be it too. I wont know until eBays servers fix their problems.
