Did Not Win - What is this?

I had a snipe set for $11.00 and when I checked back I see that the item sold for $6.99 and the only bid was not mine. I clicked on the Response button and see nothing. It seems that no bid was even tried. What happened? This is the second status message I have recently received that is not explained in the online help. This auction was not too important to me but now I'm beginning to have doubts about reliability.
