Until now I won about 10 items via AS. A very good service - I thought until yesterday.

As many users reported before, some snipes simply did not work. I get the message "Did not win" - without any further explanation.

This is not acceptable. The system should work reliably. Otherwise I will need to go back to the manual bidding method or look for another automated service.

The explanation for the failure seems to be, that the 5 seconds to snipe before the auction ends is too short. Instead, 8 seconds are recommended by AS (which I just read in another post). So, you should make abundantly clear, that only this 8 seconds are recommended! Also, you should warn the users more clearly and honestly about the possible risk of a bid which does not get through. Third, you should make a statistic which shows unsuccessful bids in relation to the lead time.

I am waiting for your report and the measures taken.

Sincerely
Ulrich Thieleman

Ulrich, if you'd looked at the posts for the last three days you'd have learned that "Did Not Win" is a phrase made necessary by eBay, which occasionally and for no apparent reason does not give a reason why a bidder didn't win. AS has no choice but to pass that "information" along to you. You have a complaint, take it to eBay where it belongs.

You'll learn, if you stick around AS long enough, that most of the problems blamed on AS are actually caused by eBay. Please don't be so fast to point a finger. Roll Eyes
Hello Steve

The "Did not win" formulation is not the point, of course. The point is, that I did not win (and others too), which was totally unnecessary. The point is, that you should make clear without any doubt, that your excellent service is just not as excellent as you state! Probably this is not technically possible. So, you should state what I suggested - in bold letters. You should not formulate (see the header on this site): "Bid at the last second, automatically", but "Bid at the last 8 second, automatically."

I am NOT kidding with this suggestion. And I ask you, to take this issue very seriously.

Best regards
Ulrich
Ulrich,

Just thought you like to know that Steve, although he has been accused of this, does NOT work for AS. He's actually a regular guy that likes to help. "SuperSniper" means just that; he's a super sniper. Now, if you see "AuctionSniper Support", then you're dealing with AS personnel.

Steve,

although it is getting boring meanwhile: but I have to re-state that what you said is simply not correct. I have seen a lot of "did not wins" w/o any explanation in the "confirmation" form. But I have also seen some clearly showing an eBay response in the comfirmation form saying that the auction has already ended. And no, I never use less than 5 second snipes.

Ulrich, you seem to think I work for Auction Sniper. I don't. I never have. I was just citing Sara B.'s recent explanation of "Did not win" notations. Not being technologically ept, I accept what Sara said. Anyone having information to the contrary should file a support case, not argue with me.

And in any case, Ulrich, being haughty ("This is not satisfactory....") isn't going to win you many friends on the AS support staff. It's not how things are done here.

Those should be marked as: "Not in time" and not as "Did not win"

If you can provide me item #'s in your account I'll check and if that's the case our programmers need to know so we are showing the correct status.

We monitor how long it took eBay to reply and accept the snipes prior to yours and compensate. However there just isn't anything that can be done, humanly or not, if they go from taking 1-2 seconds to taking 10 seconds. If you have a 5 or even an 8 second snipe you'll lose because eBay is slow and taking 10 seconds to process the bid. The next group of snipes after yours get the benefit of then getting placed 10 seconds early and they'll probably get placed on time though. It's just those spikes in eBay slowness cant be corrected for and your snipe would be missed if if you were manually sniping. It's not a problem inherent to just our sniping.

Thank you
If it weren't for the blue-moon-did-not-win-snipe post, AS's forum would be a VERY, VERY dull place. Of course, we can always depend on eBay to have arteriosclerosis to liven things up a bit. Humming along. 10,000 snipes a day. Stragglers here and there. Silent minority may not be all that silent.

I for one have loved AS but my patience has been wearing quite thin over the last few weeks. I have a technical problem every 10 minutes or so. (Keep in mind I have been a database programmer for over 15 years so I can tell if it is me,ebay or AS) I understand the technological challenges AS faces.

I have been monitoring the forum to see the level of user grief from other users. It *seems* high. However if 10,000 snipes are execued a day successfully and these are the only complaints, I am impressed. I just find it hard to believe. Can someone confirm/deny that number?

Air,

You should probably get a 2nd opinion but Sara

"Cant say for sure, but we had about 20 yesterday out of about 10,000 bids."

The topic was "Why could my AS snipe Not be Placed?"

Maybe I miss read, but it sounds like, at least on October 10th (Thursday), AS placed 10,000 snipes.

Maybe it is living in the Post Bill Clinton era but I have no clue what she means.

10,000 snipes won that day?

10,000 snipes attempted that day?

10,000 bids in the AS database on that day?

10,000 bids since the history of AS has started.

In the post Bill Clinton era, I don't assume anything. I'm not even sure what "is" means.Razz

cheers

Please find below a copy of my message to AS customer service...they are applicable to this posting, and hopefully will spur AS to greater heights.
{response to AS support's apologies}
FrownWhile your apologies are appreciated, they are not enough to compensate for losing this item...as you can see, I have sniped with you for quite some time now, and have not had a problem until recently...You might want to check if this "processing time" lag is ebay‘s response to sniping services. In the meantime, I have paid for three months of sniping with another service, and will consider your service in the future. But I will check your "forum" to see if others are having this "not in time" "processing time" problem. If you check your forum, you will see that the incidence of "not in time" complaints have increased...and free snipes (while nice) do nothing to fix the problem..marlebrown
