Now I'm really upset. This is the second bid that I have lost for some reason that I don't understand.

My previous e-mail read:

" don't get it. Your e-mail says "your snipe did not win because of the reason above, click here to see eBay's response to your snipe". I clicked and got the response follows:

Confirmation for this item is not available.

I don't know what this means. According to the eBay information the winning bid was $46 and my maximum bid was $51 so I should've won this item. Your message then goes on to say that I should use auction sniper bid groups. I thought I was using auction sniper bid groups. My auction sniper bid group for this group of items is called "Bike". Am I doing something wrong?

I am pretty upset about this because this is my opportunity to win one of these units. I've been bidding on these units for several months now, and haven't scored a snipe yet."

I did a search on eBay's help page and got 191 help topics for the phrase "confirmation for this item is not available". I read most of them but I don't see which ones applied to the issue of me not winning this snipe. What gives?

I don’t suppose you were reusing this bid group?

There was 32 seconds between those two auctions in the bid group. With 4 seconds lead time, the following FAQ might explain why the second snipe didn’t fire: http://www.auctionsniper.com/faqbid.aspx#bid3

But, that doesn’t explain why the first one had problems. Well, if none of the other members come up with something earth shattering, you might want to file a support request.
I don't know what "reusing this bid group" means, but I did get this reply from AuctionSniper. I wish they had mad this information a little clearer, or more prominent on thier web site. It makes sense to me; I just wasn't aware of this.

"Hi,

Almost all Did Not Win and Not In Time messages are due to lead time. The default 5 second lead time, while adequate for most weekday situations, just isn‘t enough for evenings and weekends. And anything under 5 seconds is strongly not recommended.

We snipe from an atomic clock which calibrates our servers. We snipe every auction at least 3 times---from 3 different servers and locations. 2 snipe exactly on time, and one server tries to adjust for eBay server lag according to how long their average server is taking. Remember that it‘s in our interests for you to win: if you don‘t win, we don‘t get paid---so we do our best to see that you do indeed win!

You should increase your lead time to 7-12 seconds on auctions that close 5-11 p.m. PST, and on weekends, when eBay traffic is heavier.

There are risks to sniping. No service or software guarantees your wins."
