Another cause of headaches with red wine is the tannins in the wine. White wine doesn't have them, and doesn't cause headaches in those people susceptible to tannin headaches.

Thanks for the info! Now that you remind me, I do think I read that somewhere, but had forgotten.

I fancy a light white like pinot grigio for quaffing most times, but do like a good red with a hearty Italian meal or grilled beef. I'm not fond of beer, but if I drink one it needs to be a good dark one like Newcastle or Shiner Bock or our local Karl Strauss. I do like sherry, though.

Still, I indulge maybe once or twice a week, maybe once or twice a month, never too much. I read research that alcoholics tend to come from families where the parents are either alcoholics themselves, or are complete teetotalers. The kids grow up with no model for appropriate drinking.
And then there are those wonderful sulfites! No headache yesterday! Maybe it's over Roll Eyes.

Now that the codeine isn't working as well I might actually do what I've supposed to have been doing all along ... daily journal of what I eat and do, then compare to when I get a migraine. It was easy to skip it when I had a 'quick fix' available, but now I'm beginning to be motivated! It's wierd how the body changes over time - the migraines used to give me about 1/2 hour warning then blam! A couple of 222's and it'd be gone. Now I start with a normal headache that progresses over hours into a migraine. Aspirin/tylenol don't do a durned thing, and it's now taking about 6 222's (over several hours) to push it back to a normal headache.

I can leave the chocolate and red wine alone, but I have severe cravings for cheese Wink Hmmm ... migraine, cheese, migraine, cheese ... Frown

I hear you on this one. I don't crave chocolate like a lot of people seem to, and am just as happy with iced tea as with wine. BUT, crackers without brie? A roast beef or turkey sandwich without swiss? A philly cheese steak without provolone? No can do.

Keep the food diary. You might find out cheese doesn't set you off. That would be good news.

Aww, Lexie, you know I still love you! But if I'm not here every day, it takes me so long to catch up that I don't have much time to post my usual witticisms... It's so hard to maintain my usual level of banality...

I really like this one:

Did you watch Survivor tonight? That's one of the developments the spoiler site spoiled for me. But even if it hadn't, one of those silly Entertainment This Minute shows spoiled it for me again, by announcing the night before what was going to happen. You know, it's one thing to stumble across a spoiler on a web-site -- it's another to have it hurled at you on live television! Grr... Some of us prefer to find out what's going to happen by WATCHING THE SHOW.

(apologies to all those non-Survivor fans out there...)
