I just tried to log into AS to see (and change) some upcoming stored snipes, but the system doesn't recognize my name and password (for either of the two IDs I use to bid with).

I know that I am entering the information correctly (and I tried it several times for both IDs). The same IDs/passwords work fine for eBay, and I was able to logon to AS less than 6 hours ago, so I hope some AS person reading this can check the site and hopefully fix what's broken. I need to update a few snipes, else I need to get the coffeepot ready in a few hours!!!

Anyone else having the same problem?

I also just tried to have AS email me my password (just to see what it thinks it is), and I've received no email (though I subsequently got email from PayPal to the same address), so it looks like AS doesn't have me in its database anymore (though it didn't say anything about not recognizing my ID when I asked for the emailed password).

As to when this happened, I had a successful snipe placed just about 2 hours ago, but I don't know if it will place the next few I have coming up in about 4 hours.

Dracq (in the other forum - same issue thread) brings up a very valid concern - how do you stop (if you need to) a snipe if you are not able to log on here?

Let's assume that the snipes will still be placed (which may be a wrong assumption, but given the potential loss of money if it's true (and you don't want the snipe) is the safe assumption to make). Can anyone think of a way of TEMPORARILY disabling the bid placing ability of your ID with eBay so that the snipe won't go through? Dracq is talking about $40, not a trivial amount, but potentially someone else could lose hundreds of dollars on a more expensive snipe that can't be cancelled due to AS problems. It would be good to figure out a strategy to handle this crisis in advance. That way there would be a known "fire escape route" to use in the future if need be.

Anyone have suggestions to preventing eBay from accepting your bids (but then being able to reverse it, once your known snipes are past)?
Here is the link to the posts from the other forum:

As noted in the other forum, I originally tried to post there when I first popped in to see if others were having a problem (12:35 am or so), but it said I was not authorized to post in that section (!), nor was I authorized to reply to any post in that section. I knew that was incorrect, but hoped it had something to do with the current problems we are having.

So I kept trying different forums until I found one that would let me post.

1:30 am, still no change. I supppose if it seems we must reregister, then it would seem all snipes are lost (A good thing for some...not for others).

I am just really, really glad the 10 or so snipes I had set up for this evening ended shortly before all this started.
This was because of routine maintenance???

Why can't someone simply post a system status report (in the "News and Updates" forum seems a logical place) telling us this? I think that such a posting should be done everytime such maintenance is performed if it causes the functionality of AS to change (or at least appear so to a user). And we should ESPECIALLY be informed if such maintenance is performed at an unusual time.

I just spent over two hours going through cache files and a tape backup trying to recover information that would tell me about about stored snipes. I didn't know if I had some snipes that I needed to try and cancel, or others that I may have needed to place manually if AS stayed down. I use AS to bid on items for both personal and work purchases. As such, I take my bidding very seriously for some items (and I'm sure MANY others here take their bidding very seriously too!).

Now I find out that all my effort to make sure my bids are handled correctly could have been avoided if someone at AS had posted a "system maintenance" announcement in advance of the actual event.

How much more inconsiderate can you be? Frown
I read on one of the forums that AS does weekly maintenance sometime during the night and it supposedly coincides with ebay's weekly maintenance. From what I understand if ebay is doing their maintenance no bids can go thru anyway. Therefore even if AS could snipe for you, ebay wouldn't be able to accept them at that time.

Normally eBay when they do it is on Friday morning from 1am-3am. However we did it on Saturday from 1am-3am this week. Also we always make sure all snipes fire when we do it, but I think we messed that part up this week. First time in a very long time. Had a different person doing it because of Thankgiving and didnt get that part right. There were very few snipes from 12:45am-1:15am when we were doing, but some did get missed.
I don't want to keep bringing up the idea of how important it is to keep the user informed, but within 10 minutes of having some problems seeing my bids and wins on eBay (and worrying a bit if it was something I did to my own list), the following showed up in their System Announcements:
============================================
***My eBay***
Date: 12/04/03 Time: 11:39:50 AM PST

Some information in My eBay is intermittently unavailable for some members. We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it.

Thank you for your patience.

Regards,
eBay

============================================

The above announcement was all that I needed to stop worrying about my data on eBay. Is that too much to ask (especially when you know about the event in advance)?
