Can anyone explaine this. I am a newbie and don't quite understand how this one happened. The bid increment was $1.00. I am "nontinclined". As you can see, AS bid my max when it did not have to?? But it did not matter because somebody outbid me anyway. There must be something wrong with these time stamps. I am assuming my bid was visible to the winner, even though the winner bid BEFORE ME??? Is the winner using a service that is sniping AS?? Is that possible? I really can't figure this one out.

AS will always bid your max. eBay uses what it terms "proxy bidding" so that thebid level goes up only to the mininum necessary increment.

In your case, bkwilson bid before you. From the bid page, we cannot tell what he bid except that it was greater than or equal to 255.00, and the increment was 5.00 at that level (see http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/g-bid-increment.html).

Before AS bid, the "high bidder" would have appeared as bkwilson at a level of 237.50. When you (AS) bid 250.00, you were outbid by the existing bkwilson bid.

I hope that helps you understand.
Yes it looks like bkwilson669 manually sniped with 40 seconds left. I say manually because otherwise they probably would have bid closer to 5-10 seconds before the end of the auction.

The price of the item then went to $237.50. However their max bid is unknown. It was at least $255 however and could have been higher.

Then your snipe came in at $250.00. eBay then automatically raised bkwilson669's bid for him to $255.00 which is the next bid increment above your highest bid.

Basically everything worked correctly. It's just that eBay doesn't show all the bidding they do automatically as part of their bid history.

Thank you
