Can't change the snipe right before auction end?!?!

I was gonna bid on this item. It was a 15 second snipe delat. The item was #5738646410.

I had orginally put in something like $121.70. I decided to watch this one end, so I refreshed with two minutes to go and saw that the price moved up to a little over $200. I went to hurry up and edit my snipe, but the boxes were all grayed out????!!!

So I had to hurry up and run back to eBay and snipe it manually. Luckily, I managed to login and get the job done with only seconds to spare.

But why couldnt I edit the snipe?

The snipe is sent over to be readied to be placed with ebay at around the 3 minute mark so you cannot change it after that point.

From the FAQs:
9. When can I add, modify, or cancel a snipe?

You can add, modify, or cancel a snipe as long as there is at least 3 minutes left until the auction ends. When the auction is about to end, you may notice that a lock will replace the Cancel and Modify links. In the event that you have not refreshed the page, and the Cancel and Modify links still exist for a snipe that is ending in less than 3 minutes, any changes made will be disregarded. For reliability and performance, our bidding system prepares snipes three minutes in advance and so you must make your changes before this time.

P.S. If anyone says you shouldn't change your snipe amount, don't listen to them.
