Hi,

I have recently had a couple of failed snipes, the AuctionSniper reports said "Status Summary: Blocked by Seller"

I'm in the UK. The auctions in question were listed on the German eBay site, and the sellers specified only shipping to Germany in the auctions. (I contacted both sellers to ask whether it would be okay to bid; they said it would.)

Manually bidding on auctions where the seller doesn't ship to the bidder's country *is* possible; I just placed a bid on another German eBay auction (using the item page as shown on the ebay.co.uk site). A warning in German appeared, basically saying to check with the seller, but apart from that bidding was the same as normal; enter amount, click "Place Bid", then confirm.

If the AuctionSniper system places bids using eBay.com, does the eBay.com site actually prevent bidders in non-ship-to countries from bidding at all?

Or does the AuctionSniper system not try to place a bid in this case? Either way, I think this is a pretty serious deficiency. Any chance of it being fixed soon?

Actually in your case you can not bid on that auction. eBays exact message to anyone that tries is the following, and there is no option to ignore eBays warning. If you had bid manually the same would have been true in this particular auction.

quote:
Buyer Requirements:

This seller has set buyer requirements for this item and only sells to buyers who meet those requirements.

You are unable to bid on or buy this item because:

You are registered in a country to which the seller doesn't ship.

Note: If you are still interested in bidding on or buying this item, you may contact the seller and ask that they exempt you from any buyer requirements they have set for this item.

Merely asking them must not be enough. The seller probably has to add you to some list via eBay in their account that would allow you to bid. It would appear this seller did not do that for you.

The above message from eBay is the exact reply from eBay we got on your snipe. You can see that yourself by clicking the "Confirmation" button next to that snipe in your lost snipe list.
Ah, I guess this blocking feature must be a fairly recent addition to eBay. I hadn't encountered it before.

For anyone else who this might affect, take a look at
http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BuyerBlockPreferences
and
http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/biddermanagement.html

A seller can exempt a bidder from their blocked bidder list at http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BidderPermitLogin

(Maybe useful if you contact a seller to ask whether it is okay to bid in future.)
