Bidgroups - minimum required time b/t auctions

Here's from AS' FAQs:

28. Can I add two or more bids with the same auction ending time to a bid group?

Sorry, no. It is impossible for us to detect to see if you have won a snipe, and then cancel the rest, if they end at the same time. You should allow at least 30 seconds between bid group items to give us enough time to determine if you've won the first item.

I was still reading thru other posts where Sara and others have mentioned 15 secs w/a 5 sec lead time - and came across someone that quoted the same FAQ...guess that'll teach me to read more before letting my fingers type away!!
From what I've been reading, is it fair to say that AS does a good job of "protecting" us (from ourselves!) by not putting a bid in if it can't determine there is an adequate lead time to cancel the other bids? And is 30 secs "more of a guideline"? If that's the case, I guess I'm willing to put some in w/very close ending times and hope to snag one...just as long as I don't get two!!!

“Guideline” sounds like the best word. As you can see, the recommendations aren’t always the same. Even lead-time recommendations for prime-time auctions vary somewhat.
