Bid went on way too early. Any ideas why?

Hello Folks!

I was sniping item 8029427391 on German Ebay. The auction was to close Jan-18-06 at 00:05:29 PST and the AS bid was placed Jan-17-06 at 23:45:02 PST, a full 20 minutes too early! Lead time was 5 secs. Naturally, at 23:55:34 the person I had outbid placed a higher bid and won the item...
Any ideas as to what went wrong?
