bid too low

I just got a message that said my bid was below the minimum amount allowed. I went back & checked the item and my bid was still above the current price, and there was NO reserve. Can anyone explain why I got this message??

Hi King ...look at the bottom of the auction page....your bid was probably below the bid increment amount.....for you to get that message.....Increment could be .50 or 1.00 or more .....granitz
