Just received a message saying that I had the high bid on auction 280021747869.
Very surprised as it's not due to finish for over an hour - what's going on with this site?

It's Friday, maintenance day, so AS sends out all the snipes that are due to go off during the down-time before it starts...
Suggestion: It would be great if AS emailed you to tell you it had done this!

was enter 1 minute early so that a guy could up his bid and up his bid again testing how high my bid was and in doing so AS's mistake cost me exactly $50.00. I got the item , yes, but at $150 (my snipe was #1.17 above that instead of the $100 I would have gotten it for had AS placed my snipe at 7 sec b4 instead of 1 min b4!

So you got the item for less than or equal to your maximum that you wanted to pay? Sounds OK to me.

Item finished on the hour on a Sunday - eBay's busiest time so AS adjust the lead time to ensure the snipe is placed.
Whilst waiting for support pse read AS's FAQs, especially the bits about adjusting lead times when network speeds are slow...
And to get AS support's attention, add more notes to the support case!
