Hmmm - the poll doesnt have too many options.
Anyways, I use the default 5 seconds and find that my snipe goes in 7 seconds on the dot everytime.
That said, we dont seem to have the traffic problems in Australia that is in US.

5 seconds works fine for me.
However, I cancel snipe and bid manually if I am home, awake, and not busy. (Like Sunday evenings)

I think somebody was trying out the "Poll" button?
I generally use 9 - 14 secs.

If I am available, I sometimes snipe manually--but as a back up. There is too big a chance that a power surge, last-minute interruption, a computer glitz, could foul me up. I still let AS snipe--why try to save a few cents and risk losing the item? I see the extra AS fee almost as insurance.
Chatter, yes you are mostly right. In fact I will admit to loosing one auction because I didn't expect to have to enter my password again.
However the last auction won, was at $750. Not hugh bucks, but more than a few cents.
