Bid Group timing?

AS will bid on the first item in a bid group. They must verify a loss before bidding on the next item in that bid group. (so you don't win more than you want). AS needs 20 seconds or so between the first end of auction, and your bid for the next item.

Bid groups will not work for you if the auctions in them all end at the same time. Also note that AS (I think) will attempt to bid and verify the loss, even if your bid is below the current price.
