I read the original comment, and after reading all the answers, I understand less now than before. NO ONE has come close to answering the question.

The quesiton is one of the mechanics of the bid system. If there is one second left in the auction, and the last bid is high, but not as high as another snipe bid coming in right behind it with one-half second to spare, who wins? Does the auction stay open for a few seconds after the clock runs out to consider all the snipe bids, or does the highest bid only count on all those bids that came in before the clock runs out? How does it all work? Could a snipe bid coming in 10th of a second after the close count?

The HIGHEST bid wins, whether it was placed a second after the auction began or a second before the auction ends.

NO

The HIGHEST bid wins, whether it was placed a second after the auction began or a milli-second before the auction ends. Ebay doesn't allow bids to be placed after the auction ends!

HUH?!? Ebay doesn't allow bids to be placed after the auction ends, whether it is 1 second after the auction ended or 1 day after the auction ended! The "Bid Now" button goes away after the auction ends, so how would one bid?!?

RE: Lead time. I use 11 seconds. It SEEMS AS doesn't adjust this lead time as much as some snipers experience when they use 8 seconds or less. Spend more time agonizing on the MAXIMUM bid you're willing to pay for the item rather than the lead time you should use.
