Hi,
I am new to AS and have two questions:
1) I set up a snipe on an item which I have not yet bid on. Will AS bid on it for me when the time comes, or do I first have to bid on the item to make snipe work?
2) How much time do you recommend I select for AS to kick in before the auction. I would just assume use 1 second unless someone tells me that I should give myself more of a cushion.

No. In fact, placing a proxy bid through ebay is somewhat self-defeating. Better to only snipe and not encourage a bidding war. Many snipers will place a proxy bid to void a Buy-It-Now, or to make sure there’s at least one bid so the seller won’t cancel the auction.
