How's this for an example of abuse of the English language on Ebay:-

quote:
THIS CUP MEASURES HEIGHT 3 & 1/2 " BY 5 " DIAMITORE, AND THE SAUCER 7 & 1/2 DIAMITORE . IT IS FINE BONE CHINA ,HAND GUILDED WITH COLOR THEIR ARE NO CHIPS CRACKS OR RESTORATION .

And they're based in England... Frown

Has anyone else seen any as bad as this?

My friend & I have a speller of the week contest. There is a seller that cannot spell the name of a watch manufacturer correctly, and it is clear on the auction photos........ on the face of the watch. Now how on earth can a seller make money on items so hard to find?
On the plus side, I buy misspelled items way under value, when I can find them!
Can you just picture this woman speaking.......??

Try intentionally mispelling a prominent word that might produce a result in your search. For example, if you're looking for a Stetson cowboy hat you would input Stetsen or Stetsin in your search and occasionally you'll hit on one that has nobody else finding it via a correctly spelled search. Now then again, if you were looking at hundreds of listings in the browsing section of cowboy hats you might chance upon it. Most folks use searches though...

Just put on your baaad speeling hat and be creative with your searches... Good Luck Big Grin
I recently took advantage of a bad speller, quite by accident.

I was after Medal of Honor for the PC, with the game regularly selling for about £20 - £25.

I did a search just for "Medal of" - basically due to laziness, and found a guy selling Medal of Honer (I ended up with it for £16) - there were also a few spelling "Honor" the correct way too in English "HONOUR"but obviousley the wrong spelling for the game.
Well, did you folks know that ORAL-B makes a "PLAGUE REMOVER"? Yep, I saw a few while shopping around for a new electric toothbrush. If they only had such a device when the black plague was so prevalent.

Speaking of which, do an eBay search on PLAGUE. Then sit back and watch how many people don't know how to spell PLAQUE. Like the "DALE EARNHARDT MEMORIAL PLAGUE" I just saw. Sure sounds like a bad disease to me.

Have fun!

Well, bored B4 going to University I looked up Plague Removers and felt compelled to send an email to the culprit:-
quote:
Can the BRAUN ORAL-B PLAGUE REMOVER MODEL D6011 D6011 that I saw advertised
on your site also deal with Black Death and other diseases carried by rats?
This is particularly of interest to me as I live near London where they had
a big outbreak a few centuries ago and I'd like to be prepared for the
worse!

If the reply is worthy I will post it here...
I can't believe I followed this entire thread without once trying to cut, paste and correct everything (and no, I'm not a school teacher). I went to grammar school when they actually taught spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ah, the good old days.
I once had a kid working for me named Michael who 50% of the time spelled his own first name wrong (Micheal).
I'd love to find auctions that are spelled wrong, I just have a hard time spelling them wrong in order to find them.
And LISA...find me one of them there Stetson hats, would you?

This thread was a HOOT!!! Big Grin I must admit that I have had the opportunity to take advantage of several 'po speellers' Razz...and did so gladly. I hunt for those people's auctions and get great deals. And that's a "GOOD THING". Wink
