I am a new user. For years I used to RARELY get spam. After registering with Auctionsniper several days ago I started getting spam like crazy. I sent an email to Auctionsniper support and received a lame/semi-rude response. I then changed the email address in my account. This new email started receiving the same type of spam - same subject lines etc. Second response to support. See below. I offered insight to Auctionsniper about a potential security issue. They blew me off. I am setting up a new website to highlight the problems with Auctionsniper. I also plan to pursue other avenues to highlight this potentially threatening side effect of signing up with Auctionsniper. I believe the service is legitimate but something very fishy is going on. I have since changed my Ebay and Paypal account info. I don't want to be at risk for identify theft. I plan to call Auctionsniper directly to discuss, but the website trys to discourage people from this. See my corresponance below (email address changed).

I started getting a TON of spam since signing up with AuctionSniper just a few days ago. What is going on??? I RARELY got spammed before! Is this a legitimate site? Are you selling email addresses?

Well, we don‘t send spam emails. Ours is only a sniping service, and we‘ve been in service for the past 4 years. We‘ve never had any such complaints from anyone else.
It‘s definitely not us.

Here is additional information. I am sending this in a sincere manner. I changed the email address in my account information the other day. Now I am getting the same type of spam sent to the new email address that I did not receive before. Perhaps you don‘t send spam directly. But somehow it appears related to your website. Perhaps a security issue. Please respond. Thanks.

Hi,

Just checked your account settings, and they appear fine to me. We would only be sending you what your have chosen to opt in your account settings. If you don‘t want to receive them I would suggest you use a spam filter.

Regards,

Isn't it rather ironic that a poster complaining about spam ends up spamming the forum w/multiple identical posts?!
Yes, and if unlimitedgoals posts like that again their account will be set to moderated and I'll have to review all postings before they hit the board, dont make me do that please.

I've deleted the 3 other duplicate postings.

After registering a product I have with Microsoft in mid August the price of gas went to $3.50 a gallon. Damn Microsoft for causing gas to go to up.

Nevermind you posting someone elses email address in a message board. I'm sure that person would be thrilled to get the spam thanks you posting their email address in public.

Thankfully for you I just starred it out a few letters for you, it spells something now too. You can't post your email address in public places without spammers using bots to harvest your address. That's life.

Even getting a new one doesnt do any good unless you have no friends. A friend ever get a virus? Guess what those viruses do? Harvest email addresses from peoples contact books. A single one of your friends getting a virus could get you on a spam list. So what do you do? You change your email. Great. Now your friend updates your email in his contact list because you told him too and now the spyware on his computer harvests that email and boom it's on a spam list again.

The spammers didnt get it from us.
