You are correct, you placed a snipe on an item that the seller COMPLETELY revised. Looking at the item revision history:

So this is a (rare?!) situation where an AS sniper could come unstuck. It could also be seen as a defense against auto-snipers!

Sniper places a snipe against expensive Widget A.

Seller completely revises the item.

Sniper doesn't notice revision and wins cheap Widget B for more than it's worth.

Seller rubs hands with glee.

Obviously the seller has no way of knowing if a snipe has been set up, nor whether the sniper has noticed the change. And a revision can only occur if there are no bids placed. But it could happen as demonstrated above!

Suggestion: AS warns sniper if Auction's heading is changed!
