Saturday evening I wanted to buy a book by using auctionsniper. In "My snipes" it was marked as ready fot the snipe. After the auction closed I saw that the book was sold under my maximum bid to somebody else. Auctionsniper didn't work. This same evening I couldn't reach the server of auctionsniper and a friend also couldn't reach it. How can I rely on auctionsniper without knowing of it will work? Mad Mad Mad

Here are several articles on the Internet worm that slowed the Internet, and crippled many places. Including the facility where we colocate all of our servers. In many places entire countries networks were clogged to the point nothing worked.

While we cant control the internet or these vicious hackers who wreak havoc on the entire world, and economy we still offer free credits to anyone who has a missed snipe.

You can get your free snipes at:

I appologize for the late update on why things were missed, but the news didn't break until early this morning as to the cause and we spent all day working with our colo to ensure they got all the bad things worked out with their other customers to the network wasn't clogged. We make no money when we dont snipe. And we lose additional money for the free snipes we then credit. Which ends up costing us about double what the missed snipes would have brought in. So believe me when I say we never ever want to miss a snipe, it costs us dearly. And we're just a small operation. I can only imagine what these hackers cost the world in lost productivity and revenues. Certainly in the hundreds of millions. And yet will they ever be caught? Probably not. Hunted down like the criminals they are? Not likely. Our legal system, and abilities to catch them just aren't up with the technology out there yet...

Anyways, I am again very sorry for any snipes we missed, and hope you will please accept the free snipes by clicking this url:

Thank you
We didnt get the announcements up until after everyone had posted unfortunately. Several of us were down at the facility trying to figure out what was going and and then working with the colo to make sure they got everyone either turned off, or to fix their infected computers.

So it's understandable everyone was mad and posting here since we'd be the most likely culprit in their minds since they couldnt get to our website.
Now you mentioned that there was a worm yesterday that affected all of the bids. Correct?

What about today? I was bidding between 11am and 2pm and LOST a total of 15 bids.

Now i need to ask is this because of this worm (virus) or is there another underlining problem that wasn't looked at?

I am new to this and recently signed up in the past week but I am not too excited about the performance from today
Brentwpb asks, "What about today? I was bidding between 11am and 2pm and LOST a total of 15 bids.

Yes, there's another problem -- your maximum bid amount. AS only bids for you in the amount you set. If you're losing auctions even though the bids are going in, then you'd better do a gut check and bid more or else look for something cheaper to bid on.
"Now you mentioned that there was a worm yesterday that affected all of the bids. Correct?"

Don't believe it! This is a typical AS conspiracy! I know there are several articles about this. Just look at all the links Sara left. And, I'm sure Dan Rather probably mentioned this, along with every other network. BUTT, don't you believe it! This is how AS controls everything! There was no worm!

AS controls all the networks, newspapers and every other media! Hell, they actually own the CIA, NSA, FBI and KGB! Those of us in the know, know this! NOTHING IS SAFE!

Everywhere you look, AS manipulates the information! So what if 22,000+ servers were down? Who cares! So what if anyone with one nano-ounce of intelligence would believe that the good olde W.W.W. was infected with a kick-butt worm? So what!

You have every right to believe this isn't true ... just like those that thought the earth was flat and that it was the center of the universe. You're entitled to believe what ever you want to, and I fully support you in voicing your opinions. (I'm thinking about adding, "How ever misguided you are", but I won't).

p.s. - This is NOT an "attack". I'm just "venting".
Steve I was bidding on First day covers. and the bids were coming down at 1.50 area. I have ,y max bid at 3.00 on most and IF AS placed the bid I WOULD HAVE WON. all of the winning bids went for below my max bid.

NOW, If I didn't have enough money on the bid then I wouldn't have said anything here, BUT that is not the case. ALL and I do mean ALL of the items that I was bidding on came in a e-mail stating that the bid couldn't be place reason mentioned above. "READY" meaning AS did not place the bid.

HOWEVER, later in the day things were getting back to normal and I was winning bids again. but up to that point....it was a nightmare. I pray to god that it doesn't happen again.
Well, move your complaint to the proper Forum category (Auction Sniper Support) and let them look at the bids that didn't go in for whatever reason. I don't really think it was AS's servers that were down at that point, but it's very possible that eBay's server system -- a much more massive lashup -- could very well have still been hung over from the effects of the worm virus. The comment "READY" doesn't necessarily mean that AS didn't try to place the bid. It means AS was ready to place the bid but was unable to do so, or tried to place the bid at the set time and couldn't do so.
