Why did AS start sending emails to sellers letting them know that we won using Auction Sniper? Frown

This is killing us!!

I know why they did it -- to advertise Auction Sniper.

But, as many of you know, and have found out the hard way, many sellers don't like people sniping their auctions and are banning us from bidding!!

Admin of AS: Can you do something about this? You're hurting our chances.

We may have to find an alternative to AS or simply start sniping manually again.

Go to "My Snipes" and then "Modify Account." There is an option there that you turn on or off called "InstaMail."

"With this feature turned on, Auction Sniper will instantly email the seller of any auction that you win requesting payment details. You can even customize the email that we send."

Right below that is a checkbox. Uncheck it, if you do not want emails send to sellers.

Good luck.

"Start"? AS has been doing this for quite some time, probably longer than you have been with them, so I am not sure what you mean by the word start.

>>This is killing us!!<<

Who, pray tell, is "us"? Do you speak for some group? I know you do not speak for me.

>>I know why they did it -- to advertise Auction Sniper.<<

Brilliant deduction. And your point is....?

>>But, as many of you know, and have found out the hard way, many sellers don't like people sniping their auctions and are banning us from bidding!!<<

Again, who is "us"? And how many is "many sellers"? In all the years I have been on eBay, I have only met one seller who has done this. The reality is that only a miniscule percentage of sellers ever ban anyone, for any reason. Even the sellers who make anti-sniper comments in their auctions usually accept their bids and payment, as a search of these forums will indicate. Why do you insist on making sweeping generalizations, all in the name of "us"?

See above. I do not like the feature, either, so I simply turned it off. Simple. Case closed. total time invested: 30 seconds.

Sure, and stay up all night, rearrange schedules, etc. I tell you what--you go ahead and do that. Meanwhile, this portion of "us" (meaning me) will continue using AS quite successfully.

Chatter,

I think this person did not know she could 'turn off' the mail to seller option, of course this would be frustrating if she preferes not to have the seller know she is sniping so lighten up on her ok? I did not know it either before coming to this forum and I did go to the option and turned it off. It must be an awful feeling to be banned from bidding because we use AS. I can't figure out why they would object, unless they feel that sniping keeps the prices too low. Maybe they like bidding wars.

Sorry, Bobby--this poster came in here, loaded and ready to fire. He/she started whining, moaning, complaining, and presuming to speak for a group. Like yourself, I found out about the instamail the hard way--but I did NOT come in, purporting to speak for others, threatening to leave AS, etc. That is not how I find out information.

As for it being an "awful" feeling to be banned by one seller (and that's all it should take, if one finds out about the instamail option, because it can then be turned off), I would say that there are many awful things in life. Among them are sickness, war, poverty, etc. Being banned by one eBay seller is, at worst, an irritant. It is never "awful."

A better approach is needed by the original poster, who speaks for only one person. Roll Eyes
Ok... my 2 cents and then I'll shut up. I think everyone needs to count to 10 before typing angry and accusatory words whether as an intial post or in reply to someone else. We are all human, we all get frustrated, we all have bad days, and sometimes we say things in a tone or way we don't mean... or later, regret. The last thing we need is to escalate that anger/frustration by jumping all over each other. Let's chill a bit folks.

I gave the person who posted this thread the resolution to their problem. Hopefully they have figured it out. Maybe they are feeling a little embarassed for their outburst.

And yes, I was a bit put off by the tone of their message, but I don't see any point in calling people names and making things worse by lowering myself to that level of communication. Like: "Hey you loser, all you have to do is go to your "Manage Account" tab and fix it!" Do we talk to people that way in real life, at work, etc? If you do, then you have some serious work to do in the social skills department.

And don't tell me there isn't SOMETHING in the Help area that you've overlooked and had to ask about here in Forum! I think most of us have had to ask for help about something that could be found in Help if we looked hard enough! Even tho I read and re-read everything I could about AS when I started, I still missed stuff and asked what the more experienced snipers likely thought were the same "stupid" questions each and every newbie asks when they sign on here.

Now if you are saying to yourself "Look at Ms High and Mighty" spouting away at us, oh well. I guess I'm kind of tired of reading this stuff in various threads. (There was one recent thread that was so silly and low that I don't even go back to it any more.) Someone must have handed me the soapbox again today, and I've unhappily climbed on to say my peace. I'm not perfect, never claimed to be. As an adult (whatever that means), I have fallen prey to the catty fighting and finger-pointing that we all learn as children. At times we are ALL are just children again. But, I DO try to learn and do better and am always ashamed when I realize what I'm doing.

Anyway, let's try to be a little more tolerant of each other, that's all I'm asking.

You're correct...AS is doing this to advertise. Some folks don't mind it, others (like me and you) do. You can turn this 'service' off; I believe that one of the previous posts explains how.

You're correct again...some sellers don't like snipers. Thankfully, however, most are more bark than bite. They generally happily accept $$ from anybody. Wink However, you probably do want to stay away from auctions that pointedly say they do not deal with snipers.

I am guessing that when you use the term 'we' that you are referring to you and your friends and/or family, or your company/business. Or perhaps you are attempting to speak for many who may not have realized that one can turn off the email 'service' that AS provides (which informs the sellers that you sniped their auction).

Thankfully this is just a misunderstanding and hopefully most people will figure out how to turn this off. It would actually be a lot nicer if AS had the default set to NOT sending the email.

A little side note here...actually the way that I found out about AS was from somebody who sniped an auction of mine. AS sent the email me and I wrote to the winning bidder and asked him about it. And the rest, as they say, is history!

And finally...you sign your post:

Understandably, you were frustrated; hopefully you've had your worries alleviated and you'll return with some great stories of what you've won and please feel free to post anytime you have a question.

Yeah I hear ya Chatter BUT this is not a poverty, sickness, war etc. message board. Its a ***** board for AS. I do assume this person was frustrated at the moment and if he/she could edit the entry they might do. Don't take it so personal....many other things to worry about: war, poverty, sickness...etc.
