From the top of the My Snipes page:

I looked - there's no 'account preferences' anywhere so I went into modify account but the only list I saw said United Kingdom. Am I missing something or does the software not recognise this little island just outside France? Roll Eyes

Hi,

Auctionsniper now has a dropdown box with a list of countries in it to choose from instead of just letting users type in their country. We have made an attempt to guess what country you are in based off of what you originally entered when signing up.

However, to make sure we've made the right guess, we're asking users to look at the modify account page and verify that we have the right country. Simply going to the page and then hitting the "Update My Account Information" button on the buttom will cause this country warning to go away.

Let us know if you have any other questions on this. Sorry for the confusion. Smile

Hi,
See this thread is old, but...

Now I understand why I today (when modifying my account) discovered that my country of origin was changed to OMAN (of all things, sure a long way from Norway, but...)...

But I hadn't got any warning messages to set the country of origin, just happened to notice it. AS sure didn't make a good guess, but...

LOL...
Well, you'd be amazed how many ways people can mis-spell their country. We must have had at least 100 different variations on 'United States' alone. So we had to do the best we could to match user input with real country names.

In the end it didn't matter much if we matched all user's 100%, because the country only matters now for our shipping insurance feature. So only people using the new feature would need to correct their country of origin if it were incorrect. All other AS functionality is unaffected.

Can't say for sure why we would have mapped 'Norway' to 'Oman' though. Are you sure you know where you live? Wink
