Hi,

I've used bid groups before, and I know I did everything right on my part -- can you see what happened here...

following 2 items were in a bid group:
ebay item # 3420947817 ends Jun-29-03 10:41:10 PDT
ebay item # 3420947860 ends Jun-29-03 10:41:30 PDT

(I know, only 20 seconds apart, but I read that 20 seconds is OK)

my AS bid amount: $23.00; lead time: 11

Both auctions ended without any bids, and the auctions are no longer in my "active" bid group.

Can someone figure out what went wrong?

Could the seller have pulled the auction before T -11 seconds? It doesn't appear to be the case.

Hmmm...

AS has been flawless for me until now.

Did I do anything wrong here?

Thanks for looking into this.

>> Can someone figure out what went wrong? << - Looks like you did everything right. Good bid amounts. Good lead times.

>> Could the seller have pulled the auction before T -11 seconds? << - They didn't. The auctions ended exactly 3 days, to the second.

>> Did I do anything wrong here? << - There's only one thing I can think of - was this a new bid group folder, or had you used it before?
Bid groups don't reset themselves after you use them. If later on you add more snipes, they won't get placed. You have to delete a bid group folder after you've used it. See, the bid group thinks it's done what you wanted it to do. It won the selected number of items. Adding more items doesn't reset that little indicator thing.

>> Did I do a bad thing? << - Well, I wouldn't say "a bad thing". It comes up a lot. At first brush, it sounds kind of goofy. You'd think that after you won your item, adding more items should reset the # of wins. But what if someone had say 10 items they wanted to win and they only had won 5, then they would want to be able to add more snipes and not have it reset to zero.

So, best advice I can give, is when you're done with a bid group, delete it.

Sorry you didn't win those auctions. Bid groups are one of the tougher areas on AS, but I've been told that no other sniping service has them.

Hey, since no bids, why not email the seller and see if you can buy them? If so, you saved AS' fee - not a lot of money, but still.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the clarification.

>> since no bids, why not email the seller and see if you can buy them?

He'll sell the items at his buy it now price of $30. He sells the same item almost every day. I'll get this item at his minimum ($23) eventually. I'll make a new bid group and eventually the item will be mine. No rush. It's not about saving $7. It's the principle of getting the deal. I'm sure you can relate! Thanks to AS it will be painless.

Best,

>> Thanks for the clarification. << - Glad to help. Big Grin

>> He'll sell the items at his buy it now price of $30. << - The guy's a louse (IMO). No one bided $23 on his auction. He would have been happy at $23, but NOOOO. Mad <-- That's direct to him, not you.

>> It's not about saving $7. It's the principle of getting the deal. I'm sure you can relate! << - I CAN relate. It's not the amount - it's the principle. Maybe if he said $24 or $25 tops. At $30 his greed is showing (IMO). It's not like the $5 to $7 is going to put him in a higher income bracket, and with his limited # of feedbacks, you'd think he'd tink.

>> Thanks to AS it will be painless. << - You've got that right. Cool

Please don't feel like you have to answer this question, because everyone wants to maintain their anonymity (that the 1st time my spell checker didn't zing me on that word) on a forum, but "carpeperdiem" is obviously a pun, but I can't get "carpeper". So, like I said, if it's a story you want to share, great.
