I particularly liked the photo that AS skimmed from the listing - unlike eBay's search where you only get a photo if a gallery photo has been paid for. As to the other features, it's so long since I gave up on them that I cannot remember but I'm sure they would have been very, very useful and would, therefore, have been a big attraction for new AS customers...

Thank you, R2. Good, intelligent response, although all this hubbub over which, or if, photo you get seems (how should I put this?) – excessive? As to the “other features”, perhaps you can’t remember them because they either didn’t exist, or they weren’t that memorable? If either of those are accurate, then one would have to question the “have been a big attraction for new AS customers” statement of yours.

Some more questions:

1) You say you’ve given up on them a long time ago. So if AS announced that they were working, would you start to use them again?

2) How long would you perform parallel (ebay vs. AS) searches before you regained, or gained, your confidence to use AS searches exclusively, or would you continue to depend primarily on ebay’s?
You could be right Rick (what is the probability of that happening folks?) - it has been some time since I bothered looking! As to the photo - it can be a pain having to click on a photo to see if the item you are looking at is the widget you're after so any search that can short-circuit ebay's system is a good one (providing it works which AS's don't...).

A1. Yes, of course (see A2 below)
A2. Until they proved an improvment on (and as reliable as) eBay's offering. Otherwise they'll be tossed aside like an abandoned toffee wrapper!

R2 (happy to answer Rick's hypothetical questions although even I'm getting bored as there is no way that AS will ever bother fixing them!).

ps. If I'm R2, is Rick, by default, R1???
Still on the good and intelligent track, mostly.

BUT, what amount of “proof” would be required before it was actually proved to you. Don’t forget, you were the same person that also went on for years about AS’ free-snipe-referral program not working, even though throughout those years Sara repeatedly tested and assured, tested and assured, tested and assured there wasn’t a problem. THEN it turns out, after all the ballyhoo, that you had signed up for an alternative referral program. OK, you can make the argument that AS should have realized that, but I could also make the argument that you should have remembered that you had signed up for it. But, be that as it may, 2 years later (I know that’s a long time to remember) at the beginning of November 2007 you were once again beating on this same drum, of which I had to remind you of what had happen 2 years prior. But, THEN about 5 weeks after that you were once again beating on this same drum, of which I had to remind you yet again. With that bit of legacy, do you actually believe that any amount of proof would change your opinion? I’ll probably have to remind you yet again that this was an user (R2) error.

Do you really think AS wouldn’t try to exploit an opportunity to increase their attraction for new customers? Or, perhaps they realize that no one, or very few, care.

Yes, that’s probably how others feel about them.

If both bored and knowing they’ll never fix them, then why continue to bring them up? Add to that the probability that if a burning-bush told you AS’ search was working 100%, you’d still never use it, or rely on it, and you’d probably tell the burning-bush to go to hell.

Although R2 shot his girlfriend because she preferred that over marrying him, R2 wasn’t charge with murder as it was considered euthanasia.

Just attended R2’s girlfriend’s funeral. The minister told everyone she’s in a better place – that was one very wise minister. The minister also said, “Dearly beloved and R2.”

Her tombstone had the following:
Died shortly before her wedding . . . some people get all the breaks.
