I've been thinking about various techniques one might use in sniping.
Like normally I use a 5 second snipe. But tonight based on the item I was sniping I came up with something a little different that I thought might work better.
There was 1 hour left and one bid for $60. The next bid increase had to be $1. So I figured I'd be $61.01 that way I'd beat out anyone that bid $61.00 even.
But then I got to thinking that if a person did bid the $61.00 before more snipe, that they'd win because the mid bid would be $62.00 at the time of my snipe.
So what I did was placed my snipe at 20 seconds. I figured all other snipers would be coming along with snipes much lower than that, like my normal 5 seconds. So if I bid with 20 seconds I'd beat them and they wouldn't have time to rebid.
I guess it depends on the type of item you are bidding on though. This was a dvd boxed set and they normally go for about $68 so I although I knew my bid might not last and I might not win I thought I had a fair chance to win, and I did.
