I've read about some of the other odd things people have experienced lately. For background, I have used AS since February of '02. I've placed 60 snipes and won 59...one didn't meet the reserve price. I always snipe with the max amount I am willing to pay and I'm usually (well ok, apparently always) willing to pay more than others. But OK, here is my gripe:

Today AS placed my snipe 1 min and 2 seconds before the end of the auction. It resulted in other bidders seeing my bid and having time to attempt to beat me...ie...pushing the price higher much like in a bidding war. Precisely one of the reasons I love using AS.

What gives? Has this happened to others very often? This was entered as a 7 second lead time.

As usual, my willingness to pay a premium price resulted in me still being successful...but it does seem that some of the other bidders bumped their "highest willing" prices in response to my bid being present in the system...costing me perhaps $200 or more. ??

Any comments appreciated.

eBay auction: 190032760223

Then this other really odd thing was that AS showed the status "Placed Successfully" in My Snipes...and below in the Totals showed "Lost (1)" with my max bid and then Final Price = $2,224. Note that I actually won the auction at $2684.34. REALLY makes me wonder if something wacky is going on at AS.

Another goofy thing is my bid history shows I have one Active Max Bid $56.01 with current $49.99....I have no idea where this tidbit is coming from...but sure seems like something screwed up in the AS database/history...as I am not bidding on any other auctions...and nothing in the list shows "Active"...only all the "You Won!'s" and the one "Reserve not Met" as mentioned previously. ???

Just a little more info...checked my email from eBay and confirmed what I witnessed while watching...that my bid originally went in, ie. "showed" at $2,412.50 ($50 higher than the then high bid). This was at 18:58:58 for an auction that ended exactly at 19:00:00.

Was AS sensing an extremely heavy server load so it kicked my bid in early to be safe?

Obviously the number 2 and number 3 bidders may have placed their bids at the same amounts without my bid being in place but who knows??

Just wondering if this early sniping happens a lot?

Other stuff is probably bugs - click on the Help Tab and report them to AS Support - good luck!

you've been posting here since 03 but you've not realised that you annoy and bore people at all times?

bold words indeed! do you for an instant suppose that you are one of a elite few who understand sniping and ebay. maybe you do, & it has not struck you that perhaps among the 100s of infrequent visitors (notice the visit counts, you silly fool) there are many who understand such trivial things quite as well as you (there is not much to it, after all) or the garrulous others but prize their hours on earth better than to chime in every day. oh you valuable expert you. in fact i used to like this forum and am merely annoyed to see the nasty & cliquish reaction to every passing visitor. of your own many posts, as to a good 2/3 i might perhaps respond 'REPORT THIS POST! I HAVE' hahahahaha. you are an annoying & smug boy & deserve treatment as such
Bye Mike - I think this forum is pretty well 'done' now - AS is obviously no longer twiddling with their product and their staff rarely visit. The questions are of the 'same old-same old' variety with the occasional visit from the odd idiot!
I, for one, have interests elsewhere so may well limit my visits. That said, AS is my product of choice and the forum is only a click or two away... Wink
