OOPS! I put in a manual proxy a few days ago on an item I was kinda ambivalent about. Opening bid was $1.99, so I figured if I could win it for that, great; if not, no loss. Then I imported it to my bid group, thinking to track it that way. Didn't occur to me at the time that AS would think I wanted to snipe it, since it's in my bid group and I didn't change the item's quantity to zero... I won it for the opening (manual) bid, but it cost me a snipe. My fault, obviously. Oops. Maybe someone else will learn from my mistake!

My question, though, is Where do you find a counter that tells you how many items in that bid group you've won? The only counter I see is on the Manage Folders page, and it still says "0 of 2" even though I've won one of the items in that group. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is there no counter? Or has it just not updated yet?

Morning Shirley

Sounds like you're doing (almost Smile) everything right. The "0" in "0 of 2" is the only counter I know of.

My understanding is: If you want to win 1 auction and have 2 in a bid group ending 30 seconds apart, AS should bid on the first and be able to verify a loss in time to bid on the second. To me, that means your count should be updated within seconds of a win.

The only reason for that change to not be displayed is if you cache the page, or have it loaded and don't refresh.

I don't have that many auctions going at once. I'm a dabbler (grin). I've only won one this week. And my purple folder in the "My Folders" page still says "0 of 2" even though there are three purple auctions -- two "Ready" and one "You Won!" So shouldn't that say "1 of 2"?

I saw a post somewhere that mentioned that editing the numbers might mess up the group -- what's that about? Could that be the problem? I think I originally had the folder set to win one item, then changed it to two, and I know I've deleted a few of the items I originally had in the group...
Maybe I've figured this out. You've stumbled across a programming bug ?
How does this sound:

1. You were charged the snipe because AS placed a bid and you won the auction.

2. Since you manually bid and won the auction for that price, AS received a 'bid to low' message from eBay for the snipe. THAT bid didn't win, so your win count was not incremented.

Does that make sense to anyone but me?

( I'm a dabbler too. )

(Scary, ain't it?)

So the bid group counter is not looking at the items won/lost in the folder, just counting the items that AS itself won. But if that "Bid Too Low" registered with AS, I wouldn't think it would charge me for the win, and we all know it does. Bit of a contradiction here, which could result in people winning more items in a bid group than they counted on, if they're manually sniping as a back up...

If we get a little bit more snow, I think I could walk across the river to Canada from here...
Seems the billing test for a win is different that the bid group test for a win. Shouldn't be hard to change, but may be more going on than I realize. I asked support to look at this thread. I mentioned no response was neccessary, but will let everyone know if I DO get a response.

Remember that bid group that wasn't updating? It was set to win two items. The first item I won, but I did it with a low proxy bid, and I accidentally used up a snipe in the process. After that auction, the bid group folder said "0 of 2" and I had one free snipe left.

Today I just won another item in that bid group (YEAY!!!) and now it says "2 of 2" but I still have one free snipe left.

I'm not complaining, just seemed a bit odd. All is right with the world.

AS Rocks!
