New here.
Question:
I already had a bid on an item. It ends tomorrow, but when I set up the account yesterday it asked me about importing an already bid auction so I said yes-import it. When I go to My EBAY the item shows up there and it also shows up here. So, WHO is doing the automatic bidding, Sniper or EBAY?

Should I not try to snipe on an item that I have previously put a bid on through EBAY? I'm worried about this one as I kind of really want this item. I put my amount fairly high to try and make sure I get it. So, EBAY would have definitely bid up to my maximum for this item. Am I taking a chance by using Sniper instead for this particular item? I would hate to see my bid not go through.

I can see trying snipe on other items I may want. As a new person should I cancel this particular one and try on one that isn't so important to me?

Depends on how you define “automatic bidding”. As a result of your bidding directly through ebay, ebay is doing the automatic bidding using their proxy bidding system. As a result of registering a snipe with AS, AS will place an automatic snipe bid in the last few seconds of the auction. AS’ snipe will be in addition to your proxy bid, assuming your snipe fulfills ebay’s bidding requirements.

Only if you think the proxy bid that you placed through ebay will not be high enough.

I think by placing a proxy bid through ebay you're taking a chance that you’ve increased the likelihood of starting a bidding war, or the dreaded nibblers.

Your proxy bid has already been placed – that’s not going away.

You might want to read up on the benefits of sniping, and some tips provided by AS:

One more:
If my bid in the regular EBAY screen is the highest bid at the close of auction will AS still snipe my own bid?

Since the max I placed originally on EBAY IS the max I would want to bid I think maybe I will cancel this particular snipe and try again with another item. I do understand those nibblers as I am guilty of doing that myself. I will take this as a learning experience and try sniping for my next item. I have lost numerous items to snipers, that's for sure.

Yes. But for ebay to allow the snipe, it would have to be a higher bid than your proxy bid, which if it weren’t, there would be no reason to snipe. AND, even though your proxy bid was high enough to win the auction, unless you cancel your snipe (must be before the last 5 minutes of the auction), then AS will charge you, or use up one of your free snipes. Also, you can’t snipe/bid against yourself, unless you are winning by less than an ebay increment.

Sounds like a good idea.

Excellent.

Happy sniping
