You have it just about on cue! A snipe is a proxy bid placed at the last possible moment, one time...if, your snipe is high enough to outbid the highest bidder. Remember to bid the max you want to pay as the highest bid wins!

Its also quite a good idea to make your snipe amount an odd number (ie, $21.12 instead of $20), this could be the difference between winning and losing.

Also, depending when the auction ends, AS *might* adjust your lead time if it detects a lag in the response time. So, in theory, your bid will be placed at your selected lead time (5-10 seconds seems to be optimum).

That's probably my #1 sniping tip. And the lower the price the better it works because people are often within 25 cents to 1 dollar of eachother so you can often win by that few cents.
