The content of positive feedbacks on ebay reminds me of most conversations: uninspired and trivial. “Great ebayer, buy/sell with confidence; blah, blah blah, blah blah.” The typical conversation: “Hi, how are you?” “Fine, how are you?” “Blah, blah blah, blah blah.”

Most feedbacks are the ebay equivalent of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” or “The Stepford Wives”.

How about something original? I’m not suggesting that “every” feedback be novel, but how about creating something unique that you use as your “standard” feedback?

Have you ever left a positive in all CAPS (besides “AAA+++”)? Sometime it turns a bad day into a good day for the recipient.

Have you ever left a POSITIVE “follow-up”? Coupled with your initial feedback, that gives you two 80-character messages.

Have you ever left a poem?

Have you ever cooperated with a seller to leave a “feedback”, with them leaving a “response”, then you leaving a “follow-up”? With 3 lines you can do three/fifths of a knock-knock joke!

Have you ever used several feedbacks to leave a serial feedback? If you’ve purchased multiple items from a seller, you can leave a short story. If you use “follow-up”, you can leave “War and Peace”. When you do this, use “1 of x:”, “2 of x:”, etc., so as to reduce the reader’s confusion. (Caution: feedbacks are sequenced by LIFO, so leave the feedback you want to display at the top, last). If you’ve purchased 4 items from someone, you can leave 8 lines of text, in CAPS! (Although, plan to spend some time getting it right.)

Have you ever – ever? Or have you never - never?

I understand that the buyers and sellers that close a large number of auctions can’t be original on each of their feedbacks. But, you can at least put your feedbacks in CAPS?

I particularly like to leave an unusual feedback, with a “follow-up” feedback (both in caps) for sellers that have provided outstanding service and have low feedback scores. It probably encourages my competitors to bid more, but I feel like it helps this new entrepreneur to succeed. And I want to see them succeed so that I can buy more from them.

Even if the seller has a lot of positives, if they’ve extended me some special courtesy, I’ll still leave unique feedback in return. The feedback will be “buried” in a day or two, but some of the sellers remember what I did.

Maybe all this isn’t practical? Maybe it’s more conducive to the type of item that I purchase? Maybe it’s a bad idea? Maybe this is Froward? Maybe my giving a two-line, all cap, positive feedback to some seller with only 30 positives doesn’t really make his/her/their day? But it sure makes me feel good!

Remember: Tomorrow is Sunday. Use longer lead times. Should you use short lead times and AS doesn’t place your snipe; consider yourself lucky. You’ll probably pay less for the item on the next auction.

Have fun! I hope you enjoy AS AS much AS I have.

P.S. Why do I get email promoting both Viagra and breast enhancements? Confused
