I am a seller on ebay and have had several complaints from those who have lost out by snipers.

There complaint is (effectively) that this is not a level playing feild. They want to be able to bid as in an auction where the voice who remains at the end is the winner.

My response: "This is a blind auction limited by time. If you want to win - bid your maximum. The sniper is doing the same and if you lose to the sniper then you at least know that you went to your maximum. I am tired of dealing with people who bid the minimum and then complain that they did not get an opportunity to repsond to anothers bid. If you want my merchandise bad enough then bid like you want to own it!"

Does any other seller or buyer have any comment

You're right. I've lost my share of auctions even when I've tried to snipe them -- because my snipe was not higher than the proxy bid already in place. It's not the last bid that wins. It's the highest.

However, I love to snipe and try to avoid getting into 'bidding wars' which can drive the price of an item up higher than I'm willing to pay, and in some cases higher than item is worth. Even so, the bottom line is, "the high bid wins." Smile
You're right -- but you should rephrase it as "the *first* high bid wins." If two people bid the same amount, and that amount is the high bid, the person who entered the bid first wins. It's one of the rare but unavoidable problems with sniping...your bid is almost always the last one placed.

Even if you don't have the highest bid, your snipe bid can drive the price of the item up on a reserve bid. That's why my motto is "Always make a bid that is the highest you're willing to pay." It makes no sense to try to "get it cheap" when you can get it just as cheaply, and get it more often, by putting your top dollar up front. Big Grin
Because if I win, well that's great of course. I have lost plenty of times to snipers in the past before I found AS, but that's OK too, as it prevents me from getting caught in a bidding war and spending more than I can afford. If it's over my max, then it doesn't matter WHEN the winning bid was placed to me!
