In case the site isn't back up in time, then about the only thing you can do is change your ebay password, which will block the snipes.

Not their policy, but you can always file a support request (after the site is online):
http://support.auctionsniper.com/
But do you think the server will be available to do the shots? I do not think so.

Where is the technical service? Or is alone manteined?

Hi Community,

Thanks for helping to bring this issue to our attention. The colocation where our servers are housed is currently experiencing some technical difficulties that has caused the Auction Sniper website and services to be unavailable. We have brought this to their attention and they are apparently working on the problem, but they have been unable to give us an ETA as to when this issue may be resolved to this point.

Any snipes that are scheduled to be placed during this downtime, unfortunately, will not be placed successfully. Therefore, if any of the auctions you are sniping will be ending soon, I recommend placing bids on those items directly through the eBay website to at least give you a chance at winning the items.

I will post further updates on this situation to this thread as additional information becomes available. Thanks for understanding.

-Mike
Hi Community,

Update - We just heard back from a representative at our colocation and it sounds as though this issue will be resolved within the next hour or so. I will post again to this thread as soon as I am able to confirm that this problem has been resolved, and that the Auction Sniper website and services are available once again.

If you come back to the Auction Sniper website in a little while and you are able to log-in to your account, that will indicate that the problem discussed in this thread has since been resolved. Therefore, once you are able to log-in to your account, any snipes that you add after that point or that are still scheduled should be executed successfully.

Thanks for understanding. I’ll follow up on this thread once the Auction Sniper website and services are up and running once again.

does your colocation use VMware server virtualization? If it's a server failure, they would automatically failover to working servers.
If they have a site failure, they would be able to easily bring up their DR site using virtual machines.

There is no excuse in this day for failure of an online business for this long, when this type of SW is available.

It's 00.33 in Spain (European time) and although I can now read this message board, I still can't access My Snipes. Earlier, I got diddly squit. None of my snipes were placed today, which is the first indication I had that something was wrong and that was over 7 hours ago.

Maybe AS doesn't go down that often but when it does the impact is huge. To really assess the reliability of this service, AS should multiply the % downtime by the impact.
Hi Community,

Since it's been more than an hour since I made my last post to this thread, I just want to let you all know that we are currently in talks with our colocation and they are giving us the impression that this outage will be resolved shortly. since my last estimate was obviously incorrect, I'm hesitant to post another estimate as to when the Auction Sniper website and services will be available once again, but I'll certainly update this thread once this issue has been resolved.

Thanks for understanding. I’ll follow up on this thread once the Auction Sniper website and services are up and running once again.

Hi Community,

Update - I just received some additional information from our technical team and, while I'm pleased to report that we are moving closer to getting this issue resolved, unfortunately, it now sounds like it will probably be a few more hours before the Auction Sniper website and services are available once again, most likely somewhere around three.

I’ll post again to this thread is anything changes, or when the Auction Sniper website and services become available. Thanks for understanding.

Not to be a jerk here, but what is Auction Sniper going to do for us to keep our business? I have snipes that weren't placed, causing me to loose auctions that I would have won that are supplies I was counting on for my buisness. I will make other arrangements, but this will cost me money.

On another note as somebody that is in IT, what kind of a colocation facility is down for a full day? Is this a joke? Real colocation facilities have multiple fiber connecitons from multiple vendors coming from multiple directions. Power is simmilar. This should not be possible.
Wheee! This is just great.

The whole point of Auctionsniper is to set it and forget it. I am not about to babysit my snipes every day just to ensure the site is up.

I hate to say it, but even if this is the only downtime you have had in a million years, it affected me and this is the last time I will use (or at least try to use, assuming the service actually works) the service.

My faith has been crushed, eaten, and flushed down the toilet.

yep...and that is exactly what happened here...I had over 100 auctions in my watch that I was sweating....no sweat now....I guess on the other hand, this has saved me some money.... Big Grin

but hey, they got the forum running....and THAT's what counts.... Roll Eyes

There seem to be a few people here who need to put their Ebay bidding into perspective.....so you don't get a few more things...oh well!

you have to realize that some people actually use ebay for other than casual use....and they use AS to facilitate...
"so you don't get a few more things...oh well!"

Seeeeeriously missing the point.

Many people use eBay for more than casual impulse shopping. We use it to obtain "one-of-a-kind" items in our various fields of interest, the sort of stuff that may NEVER come up again. That's why AuctionSniper is so invaluable - and why it's such a major annoyance when it goes "pop" all of a sudden.

They can apologise as much as they like, offer whatever they like as compensation - but they'll never be able to get you back that item you missed out on...
There's nowt worse than a 'loose' auction"!!!

How funny - AS goes down for a short time and the one-post-wonders come out of the woodwork saying that they'll never use AS again, blah, blah, blah.

The road is strewn with cars that are abandoned by the same muppets - it breaks down and they get out, walk home and buy a new one!

And as for Dr Doolittle, s/he should know that the best way to bid for a must-have is to bid manually yourself as it's not what AS is designed for.

Grrr!

As someone that's in IT, you should already know that nothing is foolproof. To rely on AS to win all your auctions is foolish in itself. Find another supplier besides ebay for your business.
I manually sniped an auction last night because I knew AS was down. I lost. I'm not sitting here blaming AS because even if the site was working I still would have lost. Two more people sniped within seconds of my bid. The winning bid was almost $20 higher than my maximum. There's no guarantee that you'll win even of AS is working perfectly.

Thank you for a refreshing burst of fresh air. I am amazed at the melodrama that I see posted here.
Hi Community,

Update - I am pleased to report that this issue was finally resolved at about 9 PM PT yesterday evening, so the Auction Sniper website and services are available once again. If you are still receiving a message stating the site is unavailable when you visit the site, you may just need to flush your DNS resolver cache. This can be done via the following process:

Windows:

1) Select "Run" from the Windows "Start" menu.
2) Enter "cmd" in the ensuing field and click "OK".
3) Then, in the black DOS window, type "IPCONFIG /flushdns" and press the "Enter" key.

Mac OS:

1) Open a terminal window on your local machine.
2) Within the prompt, type lookupd –flushcache
3) Once you run the command, your DNS resolver cache will flush.

We apologize for any inconveniences this problem has caused. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our customer support team by completing the web form on the following page: http://support.auctionsniper.com/

Could you post a link to some/one of these auctions?

I use auctionsniper to bid on rare records. I've also seen mention of books. We are talking about collectible items that there may not be more than a few dozen of in existence.

The whole reason I use auctionsniper in the first place is so that I *don't* have to sit in front of my computer or track the auctions I'm interested in. Otherwise this service doesn't have much value.

Of course there's no guarantee you will win any item - but I'd at least like a snipe to be executed nearly all the time.

Has anybody tried using multiple services for sniping?

Fair enough. Perhaps you'll post a link to one of these auctions that AS didn't snipe due to the recent problems? And (I know I'm being pushy) how about providing your bid amount?
