Why did I lose the auction?

My max. was Eur. 5.01 - last price was Eur. 4.70
and i lost...

Did it happen to be an auction on ebay Germany? If so, I think you didn’t reach the next bid increment?:

The auction was in the USA. The bid increments were as low as $1.00

Barnetto, I think Rick's advice to contact support is sound. Be sure to give them both auction numbers.

Auction numbers might help clear the mist from our crystal balls!

I contacted auction support concerning my bid snipe problem. They checked out the auction bidding process and determined my bid time of 5 seconds before close was too late. Their advice was to set the bid time to 10 seconds before close. Has anyone else had this problem?

There has been a handful of posts from users whose snipes were too late. It doesn’t seem to happen all that often. Usually the comments are about a snipe being too early. But, I’d rather see one happen too early then too late.

P.S. I’m assuming “this problem” refers to a not-in-time snipe verses “their advice”.

Please, please don't say that AS has changed their policy and snipers can now set their bids to a minimum time!

I don't know what everyone else does, but I leave mine at 8 seconds and have for a long, long time. I have never, ever lost because it could not be sent in time nor has anyone ever outsniped me after my 8 seconds. I used to adjust for busy times such as Sunday PM, but I don't do that anymore. It doesn't seem necessary.

I do exactly the same Mrs M. 8 seconds seems the perfect time because it's long enough not to risk missing it, but short enough that no one can really act on your snipe - anyone who bids after you was always going to have been bidding after you.

Sometimes I win too much! LOL!

Sometimes I have won too much, also, but lately I have gotten better.

Hmmm, did you fill up that new place?
