I have put a snipe on an item and at the present time one person has bid but it is showing on the snipe that 4 bids have been placed, does this mean that the one bidder has placed 4 seperate bids on the item, anyway of finding out without actually bidding? As I collect very specialised glass dont want other collectors to know Ive found it!!!!!!!!!!!

If the history shows 4 bids, but one bidder, then the bidder has upped their proxy bid 3 times after the bid that is shown.
