Recently I a snipe did not go through because the auction I wanted to bid on was blocked to bidders from outside Europe. This was really disappointing since I am in Europe, but AS was seen as a USA bidder. I would likely have won the auction had the snipe been accepted.

Is there a way to get AS to bid as if from a particular locale?

Is there a way to be warned beforehand that a snipe is going to be blocked?

Hi Jaap,

I'm sorry to hear about that your recent snipe was blocked.

I just reviewed your account and, provided you are referring to the March 16, 2014 snipe which is displaying a status message of “Seller has blocked bidders from your location”, the bid was actually blocked because the seller indicated that the item cannot be shipped to your country of residence.

You can view the exact message that we received from eBay when we attempted to submit this bid on your behalf from within your Auction Sniper account by clicking the “View Confirmation” button next to the item on your My Snipes page.

Although our site will generally place all bids through the eBay.com (US) site, that does not appear to have had anything to do with your bid being blocked in this particular case.

Unfortunately, we are unable to identify whether a bid will be blocked due to a seller restriction of this nature prior to attempting to place the bid.

I hope this helps clear up what happened!

The item description stated that it could be shipped to UK and EU addresses, so I would think that my location (Netherlands) would not have been a barrier. If it is true that it was my location rather than the AS location that was blocked, then I guess that the seller made a mistake in his auction lot settings.

It is a pity that this cannot be detected beforehand. This means that I'll have to place a test bid on ebay myself every time.
