It has happened to me, too. They'll tell you "why", although I'm not sure if I really buy the answer! (E-bay's fault) I guess it is just the chance one has to take.

Now, If they would be up front in the "adverstising" about that...instead of a catch-all proviso.

Not really prissy
jdbrcb,

I personally have never received the status message "Unknown" although I have read a couple of posts here about that.

As I mentioned in another post to Pattie today, I've set many snipes and all have been successfully placed. Some auctions were lost, but most won.

The status "Unknown" doesn't appear to be prevalent here. And certainly if I got one of those once in a while, I'd still be better off than trying to snipe on my own. Big Grin I don't think we can expect there will never be a glitch somewhere, sometime. I've had some strange things happend to me on eBay that prevented my winning an item, but there is no reasonable explanation to be had.

Your best bet, IMHO, would be to correspond with Customer Support.

Hi Guys,

I will explain more on this subject when I'm back in the office on Monday. Basically, when you receive an 'Unknown' status, this means that we tried to bid for you...but an eBay error prevented it from going through. In this event, we usually rebid for you up to 15 times (yes, we're very quick!) in an attempt to place your bid succesfully. However, due to some internal changes we have recently made, I will have to check to see if the 'rebidding' is working correctly. If you have ever received this message, I will glady take a look at your snipe and even credit your account to make up for it.

Above all else, our #1 goal is to make sure your snipes go through. That's what we are here for. So if there is anything I can do for you, be sure to let me know.

Thanks
Adam R.
